The results of the latest study show interesting statistics in the field of voice assistants. Here, Siri, Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa and Microsoft's Cortana do battle. Also interesting is the fact that the last mentioned company is responsible for the entire study.

The study is described as global, although only users from the US, UK, Canada, Australia and India were considered. The results were collected in two stages, with over 2018 respondents participating from March to June 2, and then a second round in February 000 focused only on the US, but with over 2019 additional respondents.

Apple Siri and Google Assistant both got 36% and occupy the first place. In second place is Amazon Alexa, which reached 25% of the market. Paradoxically, the last is Cortana with 19%, whose creator and also the author of the study is Microsoft.

The primacy of Apple and Google is quite easy to explain. Both giants can rely on a huge base in the form of smartphones, on which their assistants are always available. It is somewhat more complicated for the rest of the participants.

Siri, Assistant and the question of privacy

Amazon mainly relies on smart speakers in which we can find Alexa. In addition, it completely reigns in this category. It is possible to get Alexa on smartphones as an additional application. On the other hand, Cortana is on every computer with Windows 10. The question remains how many users actually know about its presence and how many actually use it. Both Amazon and Microsoft are also trying to push their assistants by partnering with third-party product manufacturers.

Another interesting finding of the study is that 52% of users are concerned about their privacy. Another 41% worry that devices are eavesdropping on them even when they are not actively being used. Fully 36% of users do not want their personal data to be further used in any way and 31% of respondents believe that their personal data is being used without their knowledge.

Although Apple has long focused on user privacy and emphasizes it in its marketing campaign, it is not always able to convince customers. A clear example is the HomePod, which since its launch still has a market share of around 1,6%. But the high price can also play a role here, which is simply not enough to compete. Plus Siri it also loses in terms of functionality. Let's see what this year's developer conference WWDC 2019 will bring.
