Apple presented the macOS 10.15 Catalina operating system at this year's WWDC in June. Among other things, it includes the Sidecar function, which allows you to use the iPad as an additional display for your Mac. It might seem that the arrival of Sidecar will be a threat to the creators of apps that enable the same. But it looks like app creators like Duet Display or Luna Display aren't afraid of Sidecar.

The developers behind the Duet Display application announced this week that they intend to enrich their software with a number of interesting and important innovations. Duet's founder, Rahul Dewan, explained that the company had assumed from the beginning that something like this could happen at any time, and now their assumption has only been confirmed. "Five years in a row we've been in the top ten apps for iPad," stated Dewan, adding that Duet has proven itself in the market.

Dewan went on to say that Duet has long had plans to "become more than just a remote tool company". According to Dewan, the said extension of scope has been planned for about two years. Several other important products are looming on the horizon, which the company should introduce already this summer. "We should be quite diverse," explains Dewan.

The creators of the Luna Display application, which also allows the iPad to be used as an external monitor for Mac, are not idle either. According to them, Sidecar only provides the basics, which probably won't be enough for professionals. For example, Luna enables the collaboration of multiple users or can turn an iPad into the main display of a Mac mini. The creators of the application plan to expand to more platforms and promise a bright future for Windows as well.

Sidecar in macOS Catalina connects Mac to iPad even without a cable and is completely free, but the disadvantage compared to both mentioned applications are somewhat limited functions, as well as the fact that the tool will not work on all Macs.
