Jakub Dlouhy Last Monday during the 29th WWDC in San José, new versions of four Apple operating systems – iOS, macOS, watchOS, tvOS – were presented. The first mentioned system has the most users, which is why changes always have the biggest impact and are discussed the most. There was a lot of news at the developer conference. Some expected, some surprising, others more for fun. On the following lines you will find an annotated summary of news and improvements in iOS 12.
General improvements and speedups
During the keynote, it was mentioned that iOS 12 is much more agile and fluid than the previous version, which is what we learn every time when new versions of iOS are presented - the traditional comparison with Android could not be missed either. Optimization was emphasized in this update, which allows it to be installed on all devices that used iOS 11.

David Hanak Better Siri and Workflow right in iOS
A complete novelty is the improvement of Siri, thanks to which it is possible to enter a custom phrase, after which it will perform a certain action. These actions can either be inserted programmed directly from application developers or create your own algorithm - in the brand new Shortcuts application. It is largely based on the popular automation application Workflow, which, as we did a year ago informed, Apple bought and incorporated into its system. Surprisingly, Workflow is still downloadable and fully functional on the AppStore, which is not often the case with purchased applications. However, for the Czech user, the question is to what extent he will be able to appreciate the improvement of Siri.
Augmented reality and the Measure app
Whether it is the new USDZ format or the second version of ARKit, everything indicates that Apple has high hopes for the field of augmented reality. The demos showed possible uses - displaying things in the real size of the space when buying or playing impressive games embedded in the real world.
The most useful innovation in this area will probably be the new application Measure, which allows you to find out the approximate dimensions of things using a camera.

No phone for a while
During the presentation, great emphasis was placed on the trio of functions in iOS – Do Not Disturb, Notifications and Screen Time. All are designed to limit the amount of time users spend on their Apple devices, or to reduce the degree to which they are distracted. Screen Time allows not only to monitor how much time the user spends in individual applications, but also to set time limits for applications, when after a certain period of time a warning will be shown about exceeding them. In short, a great combination of functions for today, when we often tend to check notifications only out of habit, and we can't do without a mobile even in situations where no device is needed.

Old new apps – even on the iPad
A rather surprising move was the update of Voice Recorder and Actions, long-neglected applications that have seen little to no change since the start except for the graphics. Both will now be available on iPad and Mac, which many users have been waiting for. In addition to a new look, the voice recorder also gets the option of synchronization via iCloud, Actions users have seen improvements in the form of displaying related articles from the world of economics. Since the introduction of the first iPad, the question has been raised as to why, for example, the built-in Weather application is missing from its equipment. Maybe we'll see similar glory next year.
Memoji and other enhancements for fun
A surprisingly long time was spent introducing new smileys and an animated emoticon that you can create as you wish and use it in texting and FaceTime calls. It can be argued that such improvements are not relevant, but here Apple is targeting the youngest customers, who can become a very substantial source of income in the future.

Some improvements are presented so pompously that you can't believe how many innovative things can still be invented - and only with hindsight do you realize that it should have been a matter of course a long time ago. Such as group FaceTime calls.

iOS 12 brings many novelties, often rather marginal, but very beneficial for the functioning of the entire system. Apple focused on fine-tuning the shortcomings and brought several useful tools in the form of Shortcuts and Screen Time applications, improved notifications, better search in Photos or the Measure application. It cannot be said that there is nothing to improve, but in the case of iOS 12 it will be very difficult. What's also incredible is that you can still install the operating system from 2018 without any problems even on an iPhone 5S from 2013 - this is a big advantage over the competition.
