The buzz surrounding the new Apple smartphones is still going strong. Among other things, the fact that Apple did not release all three new iPhones at once contributed to the length of its duration - interested parties had to wait several weeks for the more affordable iPhone XR with Liquid Retina display. It was the iPhone XR that Apple's chief marketing officer, Phil Schiller, talked about in a recent magazine interview Engadget. Why was the iPhone XR released so late, what does the "R" in the name mean and how much does its display differ from its more luxurious siblings?

Have you also wondered what the letter "R" in the name of the iPhone XR actually stands for? Phil Schiller admits that the naming is related to his passion for fast cars, where the letters R and S denote sports cars that are truly extraordinary. In the interview, he also described the gradual development from iPhone X to iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR. He states that Apple has been working on the technologies that were supposed to be the future of the iPhone for many years. "Getting it to market was a real challenge for the engineering team, but they did it," recalls Schiller, noting that with the success of the new technology came the need to expand the product line and make it available to a wider audience.

According to Schiller, Apple wanted not only to raise the bar for flagship phones with the iPhone XS and XS Max, but also to make an Apple phone available to those looking for a more affordable option, while even this target group could say they have the best in their hands.

"We think the technology and experience that iPhone X brings is something really amazing, and we want to get it to as many people as possible in a way that's still the best phone." Schiller approximates Apple's approach.

During the interview, the much-discussed display of the iPhone XR was also discussed. "The only way you can judge a display is to look at it," Schiller said. "If you can't see the pixels, the numbers don't mean anything from a certain point," he commented on the lower resolution of this year's cheapest model. Regarding the release of the iPhone XR a month after the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max came out, he only noted that the phone was simply "ready" at the time.
