The head of Daimler, one of the world's largest car manufacturers, Dieter Zetsche, has said that he is open to "different types" of cooperation with technology firms such as Apple or Google, as he realizes that next-generation cars will need their input.

"Many things are imaginable," he said according to Reuters in an interview for a quarterly magazine Deutsche Unternehmerboerse Dieter Zetsche, who has, for example, Mercedes-Benz cars under him at Daimler.

Zetsche realizes that the next generation of cars will be interwoven with various modern technologies and electronics, and cooperation with technological giants can be key. The same will be the case with self-driving cars, which, for example, Google is already testing and, in connection with Apple, they are at least he speaks.

“Google and Apple want to provide their software systems for cars and bring this whole ecosystem around Google and Apple into cars. This can be interesting for both sides," Zetsche hinted at possible forms of cooperation. The head of rival Volkswagen, Martin Winterkorn, has previously stated that it is important to work with technology firms to make future cars safer and smarter.

However, at least with Daimler, we cannot expect it to become a mere supplier of cars for, for example, Apple or Google, who would arrange the rest, Zetsche refused. "We don't want to become just suppliers without direct contact with customers," said the head of Daimler.
