Samsung usually keeps its best OLED displays to itself. However, in the case of its latest foldable OLED panels, it seems to have made an exception. Apple's Korean competitor sent samples of its foldable displays to Apple and Google. The diagonal of the displays that Samsung Display sent out is 7,2 inches. The panels are therefore 0,1 inches smaller than the ones the company used for its Samsung Galaxy Fold.

A source familiar with the matter said it has information about the provision of a "folding display kit to Apple and Google". The goal is primarily to expand the customer base for this type of panels. The sent display samples should serve engineers to explore the possibilities of the respective technology and to inspire ideas for further use of these panels.

The concept of a foldable iPhone:

According to available reports, Samsung Display is exploring the ground for a possible business with flexible OLED displays and is looking for new potential customers. This is a significant change in this direction, because Samsung has not shared its OLED displays with anyone for at least the last two years. However, folding panels probably do not expect the same impact that OLED panels had.

The technology of folding displays has been talked about for a long time, and even before the first swallows from Samsung, countless concepts circulated on the Internet, but this is still too recent a novelty. By sharing its foldable displays with Google and Apple, Samsung could potentially expand their uses. In addition to Samsung, Huawei has also announced the arrival of a foldable smartphone - in its case, it is the Mate X model. But we will have to wait for some time to see if this innovation will be successful in practice.
