The end of the first day of the new week is here and we have again prepared a traditional IT summary for you. Today, we will look at the trailer that Samsung released for its upcoming conference called Unpacked. In the next news, we will take a closer look at how a few years ago Google should have wrongfully used users' personal data to target ads, and in the last news, we will sort of look at the behavior of the TikTok application in the future, which may not be quite so rosy.

Samsung has released a trailer for its upcoming conference

It's been a few weeks since Apple's WWDC20 conference, which is traditionally held every year. As part of this conference, Apple presents new operating systems, along with other innovations - this year we saw the presentation of our own ARM processors called Apple Silicon. Unfortunately, due to the coronavirus, this conference had to be delivered online only, without any physical participants. Unfortunately, the developers could not participate in this conference, which is very important to them, for the first time. Of course, similar conferences are also organized by Samsung's direct competitor, which also unveils various products. Today, Samsung published a video on YouTube in which it invites its fans to its Unpacked conference, where we will see new products from this company.

A lot has changed since the coronavirus outbreak. People are starting to work more from home, and while it may have seemed like the coronavirus was on the wane, it looks like it's about to strike again. The number of infected people is still increasing and the presence of hundreds of people in close proximity is simply out of the question, as well as walking without masks in certain situations. Samsung decided that this conference, which it named Unpacked, will also be broadcast online, similar to Apple. Even though only the silhouettes of the new products can be seen in the video, it can be deduced that we can look forward to the Galaxy Note 20, a new tablet with a stylus, a new generation of Galaxy Buds headphones and a new smart watch. As for the headphones, according to the available information, they should be Galaxy Buds Live, which will support active noise cancellation together with a battery life of around 4-5 hours. In the case of a tablet, we could look forward to the Galaxy Tab S7 with a Snapdragon 865 processor, an 11″ display with a refresh rate of 120 Hz, together with a battery with a capacity of 8000 mAh. The front camera will have 8 Mpix, the rear one will have 12 Mpix and the built-in storage will be 128 GB, there will be an option for expansion. The Samsung Unpacked conference is coming up on August 5, 2020.

Google misused users' personal data

The Australian Competition Authority today charged Google. Allegedly, in 2016, the personal data of users who used Google should have been misused. This company allegedly did not ask users whether their personal data listed in the accounts could also be used on other sites that do not belong to Google. This allegedly allowed Google to use data from millions of user accounts for absolutely precise ad targeting, which Google also took advantage of. Google even later bragged about this precise targeting of ads, but the commission claims that Google achieved these results precisely through deceptive behavior. But of course, Google defends itself, saying that it asked users about everything through the notifications that should have been displayed. "If the user did not agree to the notification, his data remained unchanged and unused. We are determined to fully defend our actions,” says a spokesperson from Google.

In 2016, Google changed the wording of its data protection and data processing policy. In particular, he removed the line in which he described that he would not combine the use of cookies from his advertising company DoubleClick together with the personal data of users. The revised policy then read: "Depending on your account settings, your activity on other websites and apps may be linked to your personal data in order to improve Google services". We will see how this whole situation unfolds and who will be recognized as the truth. If the regulatory authority wins, Google will certainly not miss a fine worth several million dollars. Common sense probably tells you that the damaged users should get this money, in any case, definitely don't count on this.

TikTok and its shaky future

While the world economy is greatly weakened due to the coronavirus, the social network TikTok continues to grow. People have been simply trapped at home in recent weeks, and as is the case, one simply gets bored after a while. It is TikTok that helps many users banish boredom, and according to available information, it is definitely succeeding. It is currently the most downloaded application in the world - in the first quarter of this year, over 315 million users downloaded TikTok, and thanks to the spending of users, TikTok earned almost 500 million dollars in the first half of this year, which is over 11 billion crowns. Even so, the future for TikTok is not rosy at all, on the contrary, it is starting to flash.

If you follow the events surrounding TikTok, you certainly did not miss the information about the ban on this application in India, which occurred this June. This ban, directly to the Indian government, was given due to the alleged theft and secret transfer of its users' data. Recently, the US government also let it be known that it is also considering a similar step, i.e. banning the application. TikTok has already been accused several times for not sufficiently protecting the data of underage users, for which it has also received (hundred) million fines. However, TikTok defends itself, saying that all its servers are located in the United States and that there have been absolutely no data breaches. More or less, it is mainly politics and the constant trade war between China and other countries of the world. It is worth considering that Facebook and other social networks could be accused of exactly the same behavior that may not actually have happened - but these networks are not from China. So we will see if TikTok will be banned in other countries in the future, and how it will actually turn out.
