Samsung on Thursday asked a US appeals court to overturn a $930 million fine it has to pay Apple for infringing iPhone patents. This is the latest episode in the three-year-long battle between the two tech giants.

After fighting numerous battles in many courtrooms around the world, in recent months all the patent tussle has been concentrated in the United States, as in the rest of the world Apple and Samsung laid down their arms.

Samsung is currently fighting in an appeals court to avoid having to pay Apple a total of nearly $930 million in damages in two major cases with Apple measured.

According to Kathleen Sullivan, Samsung's attorney, the lower court erred in ruling that design and trade dress patents were infringed because Samsung's products do not have the Apple logo, do not have a home button like the iPhone, and have speakers placed differently than Apple's phones.

"Apple got all of Samsung's profits from these (Galaxy) phones, which was absurd," Sullivan told the appeals court, likening it to one party getting all of Samsung's profits from a car because of design infringement. drink holder.

However, Apple's lawyer William Lee clearly disagreed with this. "This is not a drink holder," he declared, stating that the court's 930 million verdict was completely fine. "Samsung would actually like to replace Judge Koh and the jury with itself."

The three-judge panel that will decide on Samsung's appeal has not given any indication of which side it should take, nor has it indicated in what time frame it will issue a verdict.
