Adam Kos Samsung kicked off 2024 in style. First, he showed us his top portfolio in the form of Galaxy S24 models, now he has released the mid-range models as well. It is a duo of Galaxy A34 and A55 models, where the latter is certainly more interesting. Even Apple wouldn't have to be ashamed of him, but it has nothing against him from its portfolio.
We state that these are cheap phones, which both of them are compared to Apple competition, but they are around the 10 CZK mark. The Galaxy A34 model is not so interesting, although it too has a glass back and got rid of the cutout in the display for the selfie camera, which now has a hole. The Galaxy A55 is especially interesting, not only for its equipment, but also for its construction.

Its predecessor already had a glass back last year, if only for design reasons, since wireless charging does not take place here. That didn't happen this year either, so it's really just about the perception of appearance. However, the plastic frame has replaced the aluminum one, placing the device alongside the Galaxy S23 FE rather than its sibling in the form of the Galaxy A35.

To be precise, the Galaxy A55 starts at 8 CZK in its basic 128/11GB variant. It's practically impossible to compare it with the 999rd generation iPhone SE introduced in 3, because it simply doesn't allow it with its design, even though it theoretically could in terms of performance. Here, by the way, is Samsung's 2022nm chip with the designation Exynos 4. The comparison is misleading mainly with regard to the display and to some extent the cameras.

Adaptive refresh rate
In both cases, Samsung went for a 6,6" FHD+ AMOLED display with a brightness of a thousand nits. This is not as interesting as the fact that there is an adaptive refresh rate. Yes, it only switches between 60 and 120 Hz, but it's funny how Samsung can do it even in a phone for 9 CZK (Galaxy A499) and Apple can't do it in a phone for 35 CZK (iPhone 26 Plus).

The South Korean company also tried to work on the cameras here, but you can still find a 5MPx macro camera here, while the A35 model only has an 8MPx ultra-wide-angle camera. In both cases, it's really just a matter of catching up to make the devices look more interesting when they have three cameras. You won't want to take pictures with them, which can be the difference compared to the interesting main 50 MPx camera with sf/1.8, OIS and Super HDR Video (although only in Full HD at 30 fps). Thanks to the improvement of the optical stabilization, it can really be an interesting all-rounder.
Without Galaxy AI and 7 years of updates
Although there are smart functions here, especially for taking pictures and the post-production of the recording itself, don't look for anything like Galaxy AI here. Samsung keeps its true artificial intelligence only for top models. This also applies to updates. Both the Galaxy A55 and Galaxy A35 come with the company's standard 4 years of new Android, plus one year of security updates.

If I look at these news in a truly dispassionate way, it must be said that these are absolutely ideal phones for those who want the best of the Android world, but do not want to pay unnecessarily for TOP models that cost more than CZK 20. The Galaxy A55 in particular can really surprise even Apple fans with what Samsung can actually offer and for how much. In addition, such equipment is simply enough for the vast majority of ordinary users, and we can only wait for next spring to see if we will see any iPhone SE of the 4th generation. ... I would say that a phone with a starting price of CZK 11.990 is not cheap. Btw. of course the competition for the A55 is the iPhone SE, yes, in the same 128 GB memory variant, the iP is some 8% more expensive, significantly smaller and at least has a comparable camera. Of course, the iP also has disadvantages against the A55, which are mostly the result of a smaller body (especially the battery). I don't know how long SW support the A55 will have, but from experience I would guess that you will be able to stay on support longer with the iP SE 2022. So those who want a "slapstick" for 12k will buy the A55, those who want a normal solid phone will buy the iP SE. :-)
