A holiday event is upon us. These usually pay for a somewhat pickle season, due to the holidays and little news that revolves around technology. But this year is already different, thanks to Nothing and Phone (1). Now it's Samsung's turn with its foldable phones and watches.

Since the South Korean company introduced the Galaxy Note series in the summer, after its cancellation last year, this term was fully replaced by the Galaxy Z series, which will be accompanied by the Galaxy Watch. Well, probably, because we won't see anything official until Wednesday, August 10 at 15:00 p.m., when Samsung is holding its Unpacked event. Galaxy Buds2 Pro headphones are also in the game.

Blind competition

Even though Samsung is one of Apple's biggest rivals, the question is whether this whole event can somehow threaten it. Apple practically does not have an adequate competitive device to Samsung's foldable ones, and it is not very possible to compare Flips and Folds with its iPhones. Of course, we can take the paper values and see which device has a faster chip, more memory, better cameras, etc. But the two Samsung devices are very different in the way they are used.

Just that you have to open the Flip to get to its large display, or that you can use the Fold as a classic phone with the added value of actually having a tablet when you open it. Even though this will be the fourth generation of these jigsaws, they are still looking for customers. Although Samsung states that more than 10 million of them have already been sold, it is still a small number in the total number of mobile phones sold. Sure, this generation could do it, but it probably won't.

The original reports said that the current generations should be cheaper. However, current reports mention an increase in price. So the question is, if Samsung wants to push the puzzle and be a leader in it, then given that it is the largest manufacturer and seller of smartphones, does it really need such a margin even in this small segment of phones? After all, it would be enough to relax a little from your demands and there would be more interest in the puzzle.

Watches and headphones

And then, of course, there's also the Galaxy Watch5, the killers of the Apple Watch. But the killers are actually only in quotes, because they can't really compete with them. Even their 4th generation is tied to use with Android, just as the Apple Watch can only be used with iOS. Galaxy Watch5 are thus more like a response to the popularity of wearables in the Android world. But after experience with their current range, I have to admit that the answer is very successful.

Then, if Apple hadn't introduced its AirPods, we probably wouldn't have Galaxy Buds either. Not only Apple is preparing their second generation Pro model, but we should also see the one from Samsung at Unpacked. There is such a clear effort here to beat Apple with the September deadline and show at least the new generations of watches and headphones earlier. But it is clear that the main thing will not come until September, i.e. the new iPhone 14.
