It's been almost five years since Apple first sued Samsung for patent infringement. Only now, in this long-standing battle full of lawsuits and appeals, has he claimed a more fundamental victory. The South Korean company confirmed that it is going to pay Apple 548 million dollars (13,6 billion crowns) as compensation.

Apple originally sued Samsung in the spring of 2011 and although a year later the court decided in his favor with the fact that the South Koreans will have to pay over a billion dollars for the infringement of several Apple patents, the case dragged on for even more years.

Many appeals from both sides changed the resulting amount several times. At the end of the year it was over 900 million, but this year finally Samsung managed to reduce the penalty to half a billion dollars. It is this amount – $548 million – that Samsung will now pay to Apple.

However, the Asian giant is keeping the back door open and has stated that if there are further changes in the case in the future (for example at the Court of Appeal), it is determined to recover the money.
