Samsung has completed the first big event of the year, and quite possibly the biggest, as it can only be surpassed by the summer introduction of flexible phones and watches. Unfortunately for him, what we saw was not enough.

After three years, Samsung resorted to holding a physical event, and that was definitely nice because we had live speakers and audience applause - just like Apple in the old days. The event itself then lasted about an hour, i.e. ideally so as not to be too boring. Unfortunately, Samsung showed very little in that hour.

The Galaxy S23 flagship series is toothless

The Galaxy S23 series is supposed to be the best and biggest in the Android world. But it runs into the same things as Apple with its iPhone 14 and 14 Pro. He at least had the advantage of being able to come up with Dynamic Island, which certainly caught everyone's attention right away. Here, Samsung has nothing to do with its penetration, which is why it at least redesigned the photo module of the Galaxy S23 and S23+ models following the example of last year's and this year's Ultra, i.e. the most equipped Galaxy S223 Ultra model.

According to earlier information, it was already clear that it would be about cameras. But Samsung bet everything on just one card – a new 200 MPx sensor, which is also only available in the most expensive model, not the basic duo, and which replaces the already crazy 108 MPx resolution. The basic models have even kept the exact same specifications of their cameras, and the company justifies this with more powerful software. So what was Samsung doing all that year (rhetorical question, since it was probably burying its Exynos and tweaking the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 For Galaxy chip with Qualcomm)?

Since iPhones, we are used to them taking pictures of magazine covers, recording commercials, music videos and movies. This will not surprise anyone, which is why it was perhaps surprising how much time was devoted to the directors and their efforts in trying to capture the image with the help of Samsung phones.

Since there wasn't much to present, and since Samsung didn't want to combine the launch of the S series with the A series, so as not to take unnecessary attention away from one, it had to stretch the time somehow. We haven't seen new tablets because their market is declining even faster than that of mobile phones, so the company won't release them every year.

So we got new computers that the company calls Galaxy Book. And it could all look great, because to some extent these are interesting devices that can match MacBooks in many ways and surpass them in many ways. But they have one single flaw - not only are they not available on the Czech market, but their distribution is also very limited worldwide. Perhaps it would be better to introduce a new range of refrigerators and washing machines than something that the vast majority of interested parties have to lose their appetite for, or travel to that lucky market for computers.

One More Thing

We got the only surprise when at the end of the event representatives from Samsung, Google and Qualcomm appeared side by side and mentioned preparations for hardware and software designed for augmented and virtual reality. However, it is still nothing more than talk. Even Google itself can prepare an engaging video.

From an apple grower's point of view, this is clearly a polished misery. It looks nice, it's nicely photographed and presented, but it's the same, in the same body, and only a few things have improved, to name just two - the chip (which has a lot of potential) and the camera. But in order not to offend Samsung too much, Apple had the same thing with the iPhone 14.
