For ten years, Google and Samsung will be able to use each other's intellectual property without the risk of a lawsuit.

Samsung and Google "gain mutual access to industry-leading patent portfolios, enabling deeper collaboration on research and development of current and future products and technologies," according to a press release issued Monday morning in South Korea, where Samsung is based.

Representatives of both companies expressed their opinion that the emphasis on innovation is more important to them than the fight for patents. They also hope that other companies will take an example from this contract.

The agreement does not only cover patents related to mobile products, it covers "a wide range of technologies and business areas". While Samsung is also one of the world's largest semiconductor manufacturers, Google has long since expanded its ambitions beyond search or software in general, with interests in fields such as robotics and biomedical sensors.

It seems that the period of major patent wars will slowly calm down. Although many disputes are still ongoing, the topic of the latest news is no longer the emergence of new disputes, but the calming of current ones, such as the recent information about ongoing negotiations on out-of-court settlement between Apple and Samsung.
