Last week, the updated 13″ MacBook Pro in its cheapest configuration got into the hands of technicians from iFixit. They looked at the successor of the relatively popular "button" MacBook Pro from the inside and came to a few more and a few less surprising findings.

It is probably not surprising that the new basic 13″ MacBook Pro has the latest iteration of the butterfly keyboard, i.e. its 4th revision, which the updated MacBook Pros already received in the spring. Visually, the most fundamental (and for many also the most controversial) change occurred on the side of the keyboard, where even the cheapest MacBook Pro has a new Touch Bar, which is linked to the presence of both the T2 chip and the Touch ID sensor.

On the contrary, a significantly positive novelty is the presence of a larger battery, which also has a capacity of almost 4 Wh more than the previous model (58,2 versus 54,5 Wh). This, together with the presence of a slightly more efficient processor, should be a sign of good durability. This should theoretically be the best of all 13″ configurations. Other novelties include a changed display panel that now supports True Tone.

There have also been slight changes inside the chassis. The heatsink for the processor is slightly smaller than the previous one. The reason is the need to save space for the new Touch Bar and the associated T2 chip. One of the speakers also received a slight reduction.

As for the motherboard, everything is the same here. Both the operating memory modules and the SSD disk are hard-soldered to the motherboard. In terms of replaceability, we can only talk about some small components, such as Thunderbolt 3 ports, Touch ID sensor or audio jack.

The situation is still the same in the field of batteries, which are still rock-solidly glued to the upper part of the chassis. This is especially problematic for Apple in cases where the keyboard part needs to be replaced (which, given the ongoing service event, happens quite often). In that case, the entire upper part of the MacBook chassis must be replaced with the keyboard, including the glued batteries.
