Commercial message: It was not so long ago when unlimited data was driving the Czech Republic. But now it's quiet again on the footpath. Has the range of mobile operators changed and are there unlimited tariffs including free data at reasonable prices?

It's been about a year since the former Minister of Industry and Trade Marta Nováková said that Czechs have themselves to blame for expensive data. "The less that data is used because we're avoiding it, we're not helping to make it cheaper," said the minister for Czech Television. To people she recommended connecting less via wi-fi and use mobile data more.

Many, not only the public, but also politicians, shook their heads at the illogical statement. But has anything changed since then? It is finally available here mobile tariff with cheaper data? And do mobile operators really offer unlimited possibilities?

In connection with this case, it came to light that clients of mobile operators abroad are doing much better. They pay a few hundred crowns for unlimited data, which unfortunately is really the case with us at the time unlimited tariff it rarely occurred, although most operators offered free calls and SMS, but there was always a data limit.

Mobile operators in the Czech Republic have now started offering flat rates with free data, but certainly not for just a few hundred. You won't get under a thousand a month with any of the big three. What's more, those who want their data to sizzle at lightning speed have to pay extra.

What unlimited tariffs do domestic operators offer?

Z O2 offers there's really plenty to choose from, as the only operator to provide now four unlimited tariffs.

  • NEO Bronze with Optimal speed (5 Mb/s) for CZK 1 per month
  • NEO Silver with Super speed (20 Mb/s) for CZK 1 per month
  • NEO Gold with Max 4G+ speed (up to 300 Mb/s) for CZK 1 per month
  • NEO Platinum with Max 4G+ speed (up to 300 Mb/s) for CZK 2 per month

If the data is enough for you to use messenger, navigation, e-mail or stream music, share photos and play videos, then you will pay a little over a thousand for unlimited data, but as soon as you are one of the more demanding users, you will have to pay several hundreds more per month.

T-Mobile has three unlimited tariffs in its portfolio. The cheapest one for CZK 1 per month provides 075 GB of data at full speed, after this limit is used up you must expect a slowdown to 20 Mb/s. If you pay an extra 3 CZK per month, you get 200 GB of data at full speed and then a reduction to 50 Mb/s. The most expensive one for CZK 10 includes unlimited data without speed limits. The last of the big three Vodafone then it only offers one unlimited tariff, for 1 CZK, but don't look for any limits with this flat rate.

The offer of unlimited tariffs is richer compared to last year, but you still need to be careful, because unlimited data is not the same as unlimited data, operators still limit Czech clients, namely speed. In addition, it cannot be said that data in the Czech Republic has become cheaper, it is still very expensive compared to abroad.
