The basic idea behind activating Family Sharing is to give other household members access to Apple services such as Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Arcade or iCloud storage. iTunes or App Store purchases can also be shared. The principle is that one pays and everyone else uses the product. An adult member of the household, i.e. the organizer of the family, invites others to the family group. Once they accept your invitation, they get instant access to subscriptions and content that can be shared within the family. But each member still uses his account. Privacy is also taken into account here, so no one will be able to track you unless you set it differently. The whole principle is based on the family, i.e. the members of the household. However, Apple does not completely solve, for example, like Spotify, where you are currently located, where you live, or even what your name or Apple ID is. It can thus be said that groups of up to six people, such as friends, classmates or roommates, can use the family subscription.

What will it bring you?

Sharing purchases from the App Store and other places

It's like buying a physical CD with music, DVD with a movie, or a printed book and simply consuming the content with others or lending them the "carrier". Purchased digital content automatically appears on the App Store, iTunes Store, Apple Books, or Apple TV Purchased page.

Sharing Subscriptions

With Family Sharing, your whole family can share access to the same subscriptions. Did you buy a new device and get content on Apple TV+ for a certain period? Simply share it with others and they too will enjoy the network's complete library. The same applies if you subscribe to Apple Arcade or Apple Music.

You can find out what you can provide to other members as part of family sharing at Apple Support pages.

Children

If you have children under 13 in your family, you can create an Apple ID for them as their parent. It will thus have its own account, with which it can log in to services and make purchases. But you can prevent them from doing so by setting restrictions. So you can approve the content that kids buy or just download, you can also limit the total time they spend on their devices. But they can also set up an Apple Watch without having to use an iPhone.

Location and search

All users who are part of a family group can share their location with each other to keep track of all members. You can also help them find their device if they misplace it or even lose it. Location can be shared automatically using the Find app, but sharing can also be temporarily restricted.
