It's been talked about on multiple sites and it already looks like it's a reality. The price of the new Macbook will be set much more aggressively, and it should be possible to buy a Macbook starting at $999, which is $100 less than the previous series. Mainly, it will fall below the psychological threshold of $1000, and probably with regard to the development of the mortgage crisis in the USA, some intervention in prices will be necessary. But then there is the question of how the Macbook Pro will be set up, if it will also be discounted by $100 or even more. Personally, I am most curious if Apple will finally decide to put Superdrive even in the lowest configuration, especially having only Combodrive in the computer currently seems like a mockery to users and thus forces them to higher configurations.

There is also talk about the possibility of adding a Blueray drive to the Macbook Pro. I don't know how much of this speculation is based on solid foundations, but the logic would be there. And as an optional option for the more mobile - why not?

So what to expect from the event that takes place this Tuesday?

  • Higher quality, lower price
  • Redesign of Macbooks, which this time should be made of aluminum, just as is the case with Macbook Pro or Macbook Air
  • The Macbook Pro will also undergo a minor redesign
  • The Macbook Air will probably get some sort of upgrade in the form of a better processor
  • We will see larger trackpads (just like the Macbook Air), probably even more support and options for gestures
  • The mechanism will have an opening on the right side
  • All ports will be on the left side
  • Macbook and Macbook Pro will get the Nvidia MCP79 chipset, so we will be able to switch (or will it switch by software) between dedicated and integrated graphics (longer battery life)
  • We won't see any Tablet Mac. Hopefully we'll see you in January :)
