Although it may seem completely trivial at first, Threes! is a puzzle game the likes of which the App Store has not seen in a long time. After all, this is also proven by her great commercial success.
Match three or add different numbers games have been around a thousand times. Representatives of this category occupy a large part of the puzzle games section of the App Store, and there is rarely a really interesting title among them. Needless to say, neither did Threes! according to the screenshots, he might not be impressed. However, it is enough to play the first time and it is immediately clear that we have more than just another iteration of a mindless puzzle game.
Concept Threes! yet it is so simple. Everything takes place on a game board with sixteen squares, which are gradually filled with cards with numbers. At the beginning of the game there are only nine of them, but every round one is added. If all 16 squares are filled, the game ends. This can be avoided by combining the same numbers, after which the two cards become only one at once.
It works by moving all the cards around the game board. If the same numbers are next to each other, they merge into a higher one. Three and three make six, this card with another six makes twelve, then twenty four, forty eight and so on. The only exception is the numbers one and two, which combine together to form a three. The simplicity of this concept is best shown in the official "trailer" (see above).
Learn the basic rules of Threes! it's very easy, but it takes many, many hours to master the game perfectly. After completing the introductory tutorial, you will probably end up with a score in the hundreds, after a few attempts you will already reach the first thousand. You will become aware of various problems such as the accumulation of unusable numbers and the making of usable ones inaccessible, and you will strive to constantly improve. That's why Threes! you turn it on ten times, hundreds of times, thousands of times.
This game is really very addictive, which the creators seem to be well aware of. Therefore, they adapted the technical design to this potential and set aside complex menus and exuberant graphics. After turning on the application, we can always find ourselves directly on the game surface with a single tap. After it is filled - which will inevitably happen - then the score from the just finished game and from several previous ones will be displayed. A person can thus immediately monitor his progress or stagnation (comes) and immediately try to beat his record.
Linking to Game Center also allows you to track your friends' best performances and challenge them to a duel. Of course, this does not mean any special mode, but only a simple incentive for the opponent to try to beat your score. A notification in the Notification Center then informs about the success. One would like to say that this is a certain (only) disappointment, but on the other hand, it is difficult to imagine what a more complex multiplayer game should look like. Threes! in short, in this version it uses only those Game Center abilities that make sense.
After all, minimalism can also be found in the audiovisual design. However, this does not mean that the game is austere in this respect or in any way sold; there are various humanizing details. The used color scheme brings the game to life pleasantly, the typography is also perfect. What's more: the cards - as we've mentioned them so far - are actually living creatures that react to your progress with the game from time to time. Those with a higher numerical value will also always greet you with a cute squeal.

From a technical point of view, this is an absolutely perfect effort, which, thanks to its graphic design, fits perfectly into the iOS 7 environment. This is something that definitely cannot be said about every newly released game. About Threes! but we can safely say that it is one of the best – and most addictive – puzzle games for iPhone and iPad.
