Thanks to its low weight and long battery life, the iPad becomes an ideal travel companion. Whether you're breaking up a long train ride by watching a movie or taking notes at school, it's fairly easy to get into an accident when you're handling your iPad a lot. The most vulnerable is, of course, the display, which extends over almost the entire front surface of the tablet. That is also why we decided to test the tempered glass from the Danish company PanzerGlass, which ranks among the highest quality on the market.

As part of the review, we will specifically look at the tempered glass for the 9,7-inch iPad, which is also compatible with the iPad Air and iPad Pro 9,7″. This is a more premium variant in the so-called edge-to-edge design, i.e. a straight glass extending to the very edges of the display. Among other things, this brings with it the advantage that the edges of the glass are rounded and therefore, for example, do not cut into the palm when holding a tablet.

The application is quite simple and even a beginner can handle it. In addition to the glass itself, the package contains a moistened napkin, a microfiber cloth, a sticker for removing specks of dust, and also instructions in which the installation procedure is described in Czech. For successful sticking, you only need to clean the front of the tablet, peel off the foil from the glass and place it on the display so that the cut-out for the Home Button and the edges fit the upper edges of the display. Afterwards, just run your finger from the center downwards and wait until the glass adheres evenly.

The glass is perfectly clear, and if it weren't for the slightly sunken Home button, some people wouldn't even notice that it's stuck on the display. It extends to the edges, thanks to which not only the entire surface of the display is protected, but also the surrounding frames. The front camera is also covered, for which there is no cutout in the glass, and PanzerGlass relies on the truly transparent properties of its product. Of course, touch also works with 100% reliability, and a certain advantage is also less susceptibility to fingerprints.

In the editorial office, we use the iPad together with Brydge keyboard, which connects to the tablet using hinges holding the display and the back of the tablet. Although the thickness of the iPad increased slightly after the application of the glass, it is still easy to attach the keyboard to the tablet.

The slight increase in the thickness dimension has its justification. The glass is a bit thicker than the competition - specifically, its thickness is 0,4 mm. At the same time, it also offers a high hardness of 9H and higher transparency thanks to a high-quality tempering process that lasts 5 hours at a temperature of 500 °C (ordinary glasses are only chemically hardened).

To confirm the quality of its product, PanzerGlass offers a replacement glass for a new one throughout the two-year warranty. The customer can use it provided that the reaction to the touch objectively worsens, a defect in the adhesive layer becomes apparent, or when the functionality of the phone's sensors is limited. In order for the claim to be accepted, the glass must still be glued to the tablet.

Summary

Although it may seem biased, I basically have nothing to complain about the PanzerGlass glass for the iPad. A certain role is also played by the fact that it is simply tempered glass, which by its very nature can only have a minimum of negative properties. During two months of testing, there was no problem with dust settling under the glass, which is quite common with products from this category. The only obstacle for anyone can be the price exceeding a thousand crowns, but if we take into account the quality of the glass, it is quite justified.
