Privacy can be protected in many ways. Sometimes we don't want to reveal our identity on the Internet, other times we need to hide from others what is happening on our display. In the case of the second variant, a new accessory from the Danish company PanzerGlass can help you. Its special filter for MacBooks and other computers hides the content displayed on the display from the view of others, while you can see it directly. We tested the filter in the editorial office, so let's see if and under what conditions it is worth buying.

PanzerGlass Dual Privacy, as the accessory is officially called, is a special filter that you can easily attach to the MacBook display using a magnet. Thanks to this, it can be removed and used again at any time if necessary. The main function of the add-on is that when it is put on, the display becomes practically unreadable when viewed from the right or left, while all the content is visible from the front. The filter is therefore suitable for users who use their laptop in public places, as it hides the contents of the screen from passers-by or unwanted views.

There are several similar filters on the market, but PanzerGlass has enriched its Dual Privacy with several added values that are worth mentioning. In addition to hiding the content when viewed from an angle, the filter also offers a webcam cover, where you can switch between closing and opening the camera by moving it to the right or left. In addition, the surface is coated with an anti-reflective layer, thus reducing glare on the display and thus allowing you to work in bright areas or outdoors. The filter also reduces the radiation of blue light, which comes in handy especially in the evening.

I can say from personal experience that the filter works reliably. After using it, of course, the rendering of colors will change and the matte finish is especially noticeable, especially compared to the glossy displays on MacBooks. However, you get used to the filter after the first minutes of use, and when viewed directly, it does not limit your work on the computer. Hiding content when looking from the right or left also works well, and if, for example, someone is sitting right next to you in a bus, lecture room or office, they have practically no chance to clearly see what is happening on the display. However, it should be noted that the intensity of the brightness also depends, and if you set the maximum value, the ability of the filter to hide content is slightly reduced and approximately one third of the screen is partially visible from an angle. However, it is enough to reduce the brightness to approximately 85% and suddenly everything is hidden.

Dual Privacy provides its primary function more than well, but unfortunately it also has one drawback that it shares with other accessories of a similar nature. This is the necessity to remove the filter every time you want to close the notebook and put it away, for example, in a case. In short, the thickness of the filter does not allow the MacBook to be fully closed, and even if it were possible to carry the computer in this way, you risk damaging not only the filter itself, but also the display and hinges. The aforementioned ailment compensates for the really easy and quick removal of the filter, and then also the fact that PanzerGlass includes a high-quality synthetic leather case with its accessory, in which you can easily carry the filter and protect it from possible damage.

Except for one negative mentioned above, there is basically nothing to criticize about the Dual Privacy filter from PanzerGlass. It fulfills its main role, which consists in hiding the contents of the screen from passers-by, more than well and also offers several added values, especially the cover for the FaceTime camera. In addition, it protects the MacBook display from damage. So, if you often use your laptop in public places and you are uncomfortable when someone sees what you are currently viewing or what you are working on, then you will definitely appreciate PanzerGlass Dual Privacy.

PanzerGlass Dual Privacy is available for 12″ MacBook, 13″ MacBook Pro/Air a 15″ MacBook Pro. In the case of laptops of other brands, it is available for 14 inch a 15 inch display and with the difference that it is not attached magnetically, but hooks to the upper edge of the lid.
