During its existence, the iPod nano went through several radical changes, from a thinner version of the classic iPod through the not very popular third generation (which earned the name "fatty") to a miniature square design. Even the latest model has seen significant changes.
Processing and contents of the package
The new iPod nano, like its predecessors, is made of a single piece of aluminum, which is modified in a total of seven colors. Thanks to the use of the Lightning connector, the player is now significantly thinner, its thickness is only 5,4 mm. The other dimensions are larger, but there is a valid reason for this change. Although it was possible to attach the previous miniature iPod to the strap like a wristwatch, many customers were not very fond of the design and the titer display was really not the right thing to use. That's why Apple has returned to the tried-and-true elongated look.
The front side is now dominated by a 2,5″ touch screen, under which is the Home Button, this time round in shape, following the pattern of the iPhone. The headphone output remained on the bottom of the device, the 30-pin docking connector was then – as already mentioned – replaced by the more modern Lightning. The Sleep/Wake button is traditionally on the top, and on the left we find the volume control; between the classic + and − there is also a button for music control, which has the same functionality as the remote control for headphones. We can stop the playing track, rewind it in both directions or switch to the next or the previous item in the playlist. In addition to the player itself, we also get a completely useless user manual, a Lightning cable for connecting to a computer and new EarPods in a transparent box. The socket adapter still needs to be purchased separately, but Apple is now selling it separately without a cable (due to the schism between the old docking connector and Lightning), and it will cost CZK 499 instead of the previous CZK 649.
Software and Features
On the software side, connoisseurs of previous generations will feel right at home. The user interface is still quite similar, whether it's about controlling music, podcasts or perhaps fitness functions. Due to the increase in the display, there have been only a few minor changes and improvements, such as larger control buttons in the music player and so on. The most striking new element are the round icons on the home screen, which correspond to the round Home Button, but may not appeal to everyone. The iPhone has taught us so much about square icons and the ornament on the bottom button that a different shape can seem quite strange. On the other hand, this element clearly differentiates iPod nano from other product lines and also suggests that this player does not run on iOS, but on a proprietary system called "nano OS". So we cannot expect more special applications to be added over time.
As for the music playback itself, there is basically not much to talk about. It's still an iPod that can handle MP3, AAC or even Apple Lossless files. In terms of functionality, it has also not changed much compared to previous versions. We still have podcasts, images or support for the Nike+ sensor. A pleasant novelty is the support for wireless headphones with Bluetooth technology, which we can recognize thanks to the small plastic plate on the back of the device. A rather old-fashioned function is video playback, which was missing from the sixth generation. However, watching movies on the new nano will not be a pleasant experience, not only because of the small size of the device. Unfortunately, the used display does not dazzle with its quality. At a time when the phenomenon called Retina is rapidly spreading across all product lines, the new nano takes us on a trip to the days of the first iPhone. Probably no one expected a dazzling display like the latest MacBook Pro, but these two and a half inches of horror are truly eye-opening. The rowing that you can see in the photo above is unfortunately also observable in real life.
Summary
In terms of design, the new iPod nano quite fits into the scheme that Apple has been sticking to lately. However, on the software side, this is a device that hasn't come up with anything new for many years, and due to various limitations, it can't keep up with the new trends that Apple brings to other product lines. Without Wi-Fi support, it is not possible to buy music directly from the device and there is no connection to iCloud. It is not possible to use (in the world) increasingly popular streaming services such as Spotify or Grooveshark, and all data transfers must still be carried out via computer iTunes. Those who like this classic approach to music players will find the ideal device in the new iPod nano. Likewise, it is still perfectly usable for sports, although it is necessary to tidy up the iTunes library first.
The seventh generation iPod nano is produced in seven colors, including the (PRODUCT) RED charity version, and in only one capacity, 16 GB. On the Czech market, it will be 4 290 $ and you can buy it in APR brick-and-mortar stores. Those who demand more from their player can go for the iPod touch for a tolerable extra charge. It will offer the same capacity of 16 GB for CZK 5. For an additional thousand crowns, we get a significantly larger display, Internet connection via Wi-Fi and, above all, a complete iOS system with a huge range of iTunes Store and App Store stores. We will bring you a review in the following days. Whatever you decide, it's very likely that Apple currently sees music players as a mere entry point into the Apple world. Therefore, newcomers should be careful not to read the pages of Jablíčkár on their new MacBook in a few months and not to share our articles via their new iPhone 390.

Heh, that's exactly how I got into the apple world, via iPod (first classic, then Nano). Well, today I'm writing this post on a MacBook Pro, I call and text on an iPhone 4 (for now it's still enough), my wife uses an older 3GS and in the evenings we surf on an iPad 2 :) Sorry for the OT, that last sentence somehow "kicked me" / take it easy delete it ;)
Do not smear! We are always happy to receive such posts :)
The only thing I don't understand about it are the icons. Why does this iPod suddenly have different icons than the iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, etc. Just another differentiation and "change for the sake of change", which is starting to spread more and more at Apple...
That's exactly what I'm saying to myself. Round icons and the symbol in the home button are downright disgusting and do not correspond with other iDevices.
So that it's not like iOS :)
This is what I've been saying since the launch :( I liked how they harmonized the appearance of all the devices in the "OS" visual as well and it all looked like one big mutually compatible family (which it is). And now this... I don't understand.
According to the official specifications, the display has a pixel density of 202 ppi, which I don't think is low at all, and it's even more than the iPhone 3GS (165 ppi). With a better display, the performance requirement would needlessly increase, the battery life would decrease and the price would increase. I would rather see its price as the biggest minus in our region, which the author of the review summed up nicely compared to the older generation iPod Touch, which can do 10 times more. In conclusion, I would like to point out that the review could have been a little more comprehensive, especially in the software part. This article seems to me more like a quick and brief introduction of a new product.
Maybe that sent Curiosity from Mars, or I don't know. I can't explain it any other way.
It kind of reminds me of a Nokia Lumia..
Otherwise nice, small, cute :)
I totally agree, I was already thinking about it during the Keynote, and I admit that it disappointed me. Not the look, it's beautiful, just like I find Lumias beautiful. But the image. On the one hand, Samsung is successfully copying Apple products, on the other, Apple will introduce something like this. The colors, the frame, the whole Lumia.
it's just a stretched version of the previous generation. so rather Nokia is copying
And Lumia looks like a stretched iPod nano of the 6th generation ;)
The design is nice, and everything else is fine, just the display :D But we'll see next year
Next to the iPod Touch, it almost seems like a useless device to me, especially at that price. I like the previous generation and find it more useful.
I don't know, I have an ipod nano 5th generation. The graphics are great and so is the design, but the battery life, you're kidding me. the battery does not even last half an hour. YES, it will last all day long, but you must not have the display on or listen to the radio all the time, otherwise you will drain the battery like nothing. So I wouldn't say it's better, it just has better graphics. that's the only thing i like about him.
I am the proud owner of an iPhone 4 and I have to say that I really hit it off. Even after two years, I'm completely satisfied and I don't need to improve :)
Just on topic, a year ago I lost my beloved mp3 (emgeton cosi, I had it for about 5 years), so I started looking for a replacement. Well, since I already had an IP4 for a year, I added an iPod nano to the family. I didn't like the 6th generation, so after about a month of searching, I bought a used 5th generation (in my opinion, the most beautiful ipod in terms of design), beautiful steel blue, and since then I can't praise it enough :)
I think it's great for the price, but I personally would probably never go for an iPod. I have an IPhone, IPad and a Samsung Galaxy 3 from which I only listen to music on the iPhone, so this is useless for me, but I appreciate that they made it cheaper for students :)
Hello, I would just like to ask where you got the information that the iPod Touch 6 version with 16GB will be available in the Czech Republic? So far I only see 32GB and 64GB in the menu. Thanks
iPod nano 7th does not play any of the video formats: avi, mkv, mp4 can you tell me why?? It says that the format cannot be used... I am uploading via iTunes 10.7.0.21
I can't upload photos either…
If you put videos through itunes into the video application, itunes will only take mp4. I recommend you to use the free VideoMonkey application, which will adjust the exact format, resolution and codec for itunes :)
OK thanks. And what about pictures? What formats does the iPod nano 7 display? Klsick e.g. I can't display .jpg.
