MagSafe is one of the main features offered by all newer iPhones, specifically from the 12 (Pro) models. Despite the fact that it is a truly perfect technology, many users often have no idea about it, which is a great shame. MagSafe uses the magnets found in the back of Apple phones to attach various accessories – it can be wireless MagSafe chargers, car holders or stands, wallets, power banks and many others. Apple also offers its own power bank, i.e. the so-called MagSafe battery, but it is certainly not ideal in terms of the price-performance ratio, so it is simply worth buying alternatives. In this review, we will look at the next one together Swissten MagSafe power bank, which, however, offers more than the original one, which you can read about in the review below.

Official specification

As usual in our reviews, we will start with the official specifications in this case as well. One of the most important data for a power bank is, of course, the capacity - our Swissten MagSafe power bank is specifically about 10 mAh. As for performance, this reviewed power bank provides up to 000 W wirelessly and is fully compatible with MagSafe. In addition, however, we can find three other connectors on the powerbank, specifically on the bottom. These are input Lightning (15V DC 5A / 2V DC 9A), input and output USB-C (2V DC 5A / 3V DC 9A / 2,2V DC 12A; 1,5W / 5W / 7,5W / 10W) and USB-A output only (15V DC 4,5A / 5V DC 5A / 4,5V DC 9A / 2V DC 12A). The total maximum power is 1,5 W, which is definitely nice for a power bank in such a small body. There is support for Power Delivery (22.5 W) and Quick Charge (18 W). Of course, it is important to mention that the Swissten MagSafe powerbank can also be used for wireless charging of older iPhones without MagSafe, using the classic Qi standard. The type of battery used is Li-Polymer. The price of the Swissten MagSafe power bank is CZK 20, you can anyway use up to 15% discount, which you can find at the end of this article.

Packing

The Swissten MagSafe power bank is packed in a black box, as is customary with some products from this brand. On the front of the box there is a picture of the power bank itself with the basic specifications regarding capacity and performance, as well as on the side. The larger half of the back of the box is then occupied by instructions in several languages, together with an analysis of the individual parts of the power bank. After opening the box, just pull out the Swissten MagSafe power bank in the plastic carrier. The power bank is also packed in a plastic bag, and together with it, you will also find a USB-C - USB-C charging cable, which is one meter long.

Processing

As for the processing of the reviewed power bank, there is absolutely nothing to complain about. It is made of black matte ABS plastic, with the fact that in one of the upper corners you will find a hole through which a loop is threaded. Thanks to it, the power bank can be attached to anything, for example a backpack, so that it does not get lost. The front side, that is, the one that rests on the back of the iPhone, has a clearly marked area where the magnets are located. The marking is made of shiny plastic, which has a different texture and has a slightly rubbery feel, so it wouldn't have to scratch the back of the iPhone. Of course, there is also the Swissten branding.

On the back there is the necessary information and certificates, but it is a shame that when attached to the iPhone with MagSafe, they are turned upside down, which slightly spoils the impression of processing. The bottom side is equipped with the already mentioned three connectors, namely Lightning, USB-C and USB-A. On the left side you will find an LED indicator that informs both about the charge and active charging of the device, on the right side there is a button that starts the power bank and activates charging. The dimensions of the power bank are 109 x 69 x 17.2 millimeters, the weight then reaches 117 grams. Given that it is a power bank with a capacity of 10 mAh, the dimensions and weight are pleasantly surprising.

Personal experience

I tested the Swissten MagSafe power bank for a few days with the iPhone 12. It is important to mention that this is indeed a MagSafe compatible power bank, with everything. So when you snap it onto your iPhone, you'll see a charging animation and the maximum charging power is up to 15W. However, keep in mind that this is still a wireless MagSafe power bank, so don't expect it to wirelessly charge your iPhone from zero to 50% in half an hour , as is the case with wired charging. The use of a MagSafe power bank is generally suitable for maintaining the battery status, however, if you let the iPhone charge in a rest state, then of course the charge percentages can increase significantly. If you want to quickly and urgently charge your iPhone or other device, it is always better to use wired charging - the appropriate connectors are available on the bottom of the power bank.

Many of you will definitely be interested in how the power bank heats up. The longest I used the power bank to charge the iPhone 12 was about two hours, and it was warm to the touch, but definitely not in a dizzying way. So part of the energy is definitely converted into heat, this is practically the case with every wireless power bank of the same type, but this is not a disadvantage, but rather a feature. As for compatibility, it is stated that the reviewed power bank can be used with all iPhones 12 and newer, that is, if we are talking about MagSafe. As already mentioned, there is also support for Qi charging, which can be used with all iPhones 8 and newer, or any other phones with wireless charging support. Otherwise, from the point of view of my personal experience with the Swissten MagSafe power bank, I don't have any problems, in the beginning only twice the MagSafe charging turned off by itself, but now it doesn't happen anymore.

záver

If you would like to buy a power bank, but you want a modern solution with MagSafe, you have several options to choose from. Either you reach for an original MagSafe battery from Apple, or for an alternative, for example in the form of a Swissten MagSafe power bank. The difference between these solutions is really big and in the vast majority of industries the alternative solution leads. Unfortunately, the MagSafe battery is expensive, it costs CZK 2, which is almost 890 times more than the reviewed Swissten power bank. In addition, it also has a smaller capacity and does not have connectors for wired charging. For some, the Apple MagSafe battery has an advantage practically only in design and  on the back. From my own experience, I can therefore recommend the Swissten MagSafe power bank.
