Pavel Jelic When Apple introduced MagSafe together with the arrival of the iPhone 12, most of us did not even realize what a change this gadget would bring. If you're not completely familiar with newer Apple phones and MagSafe doesn't tell you anything, it's Apple's technology, when magnets are built into the body on the back of the "twelve" and other newer iPhones. Thanks to them, you can use magnetic accessories, for example in the form of wallets or holders in vehicles, to which you simply snap the iPhone. One of the latest MagSafe accessories includes power banks that you attach magnetically to the back of Apple phones, which starts wireless charging.

Apple was the first to officially come up with such a power bank and named it MagSafe battery, i.e. MagSafe Battery Pack. This original power bank was supposed to fully replace the popular Smart Battery Case at the time, which had a built-in battery and could charge apple phones in the classic way via the Lightning connector. Unfortunately, the MagSafe battery turned out to be a fiasco, mainly due to the price, low capacity and slow charging. Practically speaking, the MagSafe battery can only slow down the discharge of supported iPhones. Other manufacturers of apple accessories had to take responsibility into their own hands. One such manufacturer includes Swissten, which came up with its own MagSafe power bank, which we will look at together in this review. This is an updated version of this power bank, which is now compatible with all iPhones that support MagSafe, without exception.

The Swissten MagSafe power bank is probably better in all respects than the already mentioned MagSafe battery from Apple. Right from the start, we can mention the rather higher capacity, which reaches 5 mAh. Compared to the MagSafe battery, this capacity is almost twice as high, if we take into account s obtained by calculation with a capacity of 2 mAh (lossless). As for the maximum charging power, it reaches up to 920 W. On the body of the Swissten MagSafe power bank, there are two connectors, namely the input Lightning (15V/5A) and the input and output USB-C, which can provide power up to 2 W via Power Delivery. The dimensions of this power bank are 20 x 110 x 69 millimeters, the weight is only 12 grams. The classic price of the MagSafe power bank from Swissten is 120 crowns, but if you get to the end of this review, you can use up to 15% discount, which brings you to the price of CZK 679.
Packing
If we look at the packaging of the Swissten MagSafe power bank, at first glance it is completely typical for this brand. This means that it will arrive in a dark box, on which the power bank itself is located at the front, along with information about supported technologies, maximum capacity, etc. On one of the sides you will find information about the inputs and the used battery, and on the back there is a description and a manual. together with an illustration of the individual parts of the Swissten MagSafe power bank. After opening the box, just pull out the plastic carrying case, which already contains the power bank itself, together with the 20 cm USB-A – USB-C cable for charging.

Processing
As for the processing, as with most products from Swissten, I have practically nothing to complain about with the MagSafe power bank either. On the front of the power bank, which clips onto the back of the iPhone, wireless charging is marked at the top, and below you will find the Swissten branding, along with the input and output markings on the connectors. The lower side has a Lightning input connector on the left, in the middle there are four holes for LEDs that tell you information about the charge status, and on the right you will find an input and output USB-C connector.
On the back there are illustrated certificates and information about the performance of the connectors, etc., and below you will find a flip-up foot with the Swissten logo, thanks to which you can also stand your iPhone while charging, which is useful, for example, when watching movies. On the right side, practically at the very bottom, there is the powerbank activation button, which also displays the charge status via the aforementioned LEDs. The upper side then has an opening for putting a loop through. For me, the only thing I would change on this Swissten MagSafe power bank is the placement of the certifications, purely from an aesthetic point of view on the front side, at the same time I could imagine some kind of rubber protective layer against scratches on this front side that touches the back of the iPhone - this is but rather about a little thing.

Personal experience
If you were to ask me about one of the best innovations that Apple has recently come up with for iPhones, I would say MagSafe without hesitation - I am a big supporter of it and in my opinion it has huge potential. By now you've probably guessed that I'm going to tell you that the MagSafe battery from Swissten is simply great... and it's true. As I wrote in the introduction, Apple's MagSafe battery impressed me with its design, but that's about all. The Swissten one offers everything I expected from an Apple MagSafe battery. So it is a low price, which is four times lower, and a huge capacity, which in turn is almost twice compared to Apple's MagSafe battery. As for the disadvantages, unfortunately you cannot avoid heating. It is important to mention that Swissten has recently updated this MagSafe power bank so that you can now use it on absolutely all iPhones with MagSafe support. The camera will not charge the powerbank in any way.

When using the MagSafe power bank from Swissten, I didn't encounter any problem apart from heating and it works exactly as expected. When clicked on the iPhone, the classic MagSafe animation appears on its display to inform about charging, just like with a MagSafe battery. It should be mentioned, however, that you can also use the Swissten MagSafe power bank for classic Qi wireless charging, for example older iPhones or AirPods - you are not limited to MagSafe. At the same time, you can also use the USB-C connector for classic wired charging. In addition to the simple design, I also like the flip-up leg of the Swissten MagSafe power bank, which can be useful, at the same time, I have to praise the presence of the loop hole.

If you are looking for a MagSafe battery from Apple, but the high price, together with the low capacity, bothers you, then I would advise you not to even think about it. There are better MagSafe batteries (or power banks) on the market in terms of parameters, and for some also in terms of design, which you can also get for a fraction of the price. It is important to mention that the power bank is only Magsafe compatible and does not have Made-for-Magsafe certification. All Apple devices can thus only charge 7.5W wirelessly.
