Apple picker Touch screens of iPhones and especially iPads are perfect for playing strategy games, thanks to their very easy control, where you can arrange everything with one finger, and you don't have to click through complex menus. Tower defense games have recently become a very popular strategy subgenre. However, there are very few of them, where you get a large portion of fun, great graphics and sound processing, and a large number of diverse enemies. All these criteria were fulfilled for players at the end of 2011 by Ironhide Game Studio in the title Kingdom Rush, with which it collected many awards. These days, after about a year and a half, a sequel to the highly successful Kingdom Rush, subtitled Frontiers, appeared on the App Store, and it's no wonder that after a few hours, this game took the top spots in most of the world rankings.
The principle of the game is absolutely simple, but at the same time very catchy and fun. On the display of the iOS device, you have a path on which armies of enemies enter in waves from one side, trying to get to the other side. There you have a flag-raised border that you must defend and preferably not allow a single enemy to pass through. There are a limited number of construction sites around this road where you can build buildings for defense. Once the constructions are completed, lots of fun begins in the form of explosions, mayhem and wild action. You don't have to deal with any collection of raw materials here, as in other strategies, here you can only get by with the gold coins you get for shooting down opponents.
As in the original version of the game, there are four buildings and towers available in Kingdom Rush Frontiers, which can be developed up to four different levels, during which not only the power or speed of their attack changes, but also their crew. For example, an archery tower will become a tower with ax throwers after a few upgrades, or the barracks, which originally housed three knights, will become desert assassin guilds after paying. There are several dozen types of enemies here again, from spiders to bees to shamans and other monsters, all of them have their specific characteristics and each has a different attack. The levels are peppered with points of interest worth paying attention to. Somewhere you can ask the pirates for a bribe to fire a cannon at the designated place, in other places carnivorous plants help you. The graphics of the game have remained practically unchanged, everything is drawn in detail and pleasingly, there are also various effects or animations that will catch your eye, and the sound processing is of no less quality.
The hero who accompanies you and helps you in every level must also be mentioned. Here is probably the biggest change compared to the original title. In the base, you have a choice of three heroes, each of which has special characteristics that, unlike the year-and-a-half-old game, you can upgrade after successfully mastering the levels. A few more can then be purchased via In-App purchase, which is intended for the biggest connoisseurs, as the most expensive ones cost more than the game itself.
After reading the previous lines, you are probably thinking that Kingdom Rush Frontiers is nothing new and everything is the same as in the original Kingdom Rush. There are the same functioning towers, except for minor changes, the same spectrum of enemies, exactly the same graphics and the overall principle of the game is also unchanged. But I must add that it doesn't matter at all; why change something that works so well? The game contains 15 rather complex levels, dozens of achievements, enemies, fighters and many other details, which guarantees many hours of fun and action. As is often the case, you pay for quality and the HD version of the game costs around one hundred crowns, which may be too much for some, but I recommend the game with a clear conscience and I do not regret at all that I rewarded the authors of this addictive game with such an amount.
