The wearetree company produces its products sustainably, without plastics and with a positive impact. When you buy one, they plant a tree. And when you unwrap one, you'll find a seed inside from which you can grow your own tree. And of course you can also charge your phone wirelessly.

Treed charger was developed by the Czech-German company wearetreed as a response to the negative impact of technology on the environment. It started on Kickstarter, where people successfully backed it, and now offers not only wooden wireless chargers, but also cables made from compostable wheat straw waste. After all, you can find one of these inside the charger package itself.

Ecology on all fronts

The topic of ecology has been inflected everywhere lately. It can get on your nerves, on the other hand, you have to take into account that the topic is important and will always be here with us, willy-nilly. That's why it's really nice to see that even in a segment like wireless chargers, you can find ones that are neither plastic nor aluminum and are made from renewable material. And so that the word "renewability" really has meaning here, the sales here are not only connected with the planting of new trees (through the company onetreeplanted), but also with the actual cultivation by the users themselves.

So you will find a bonsai seed in the charger package. This is so that you can grow it at home and anywhere in the world. Because if the creators were adding different types of trees, they wouldn't be able to ensure that it would travel to the right place where it could thrive. And you can't just plant a tree in nature at your own discretion. Bonsai grown nicely at home in the heat practically solves this.

"Eco" is not only the product and its packaging, but of course also the already mentioned cable. The included one is a meter-long USB-A to USB-C and is made of compostable materials. Buy it after all, you can do it separately, even if you want the specifications lightning. Its individual price is 15 EUR (approx. 380 CZK) on the manufacturer's website, and you can compost it after removing the metal parts.

Handcrafted

The charger itself can be in several designs, i.e. from several different types of trees. You can choose between oak, walnut and ash. It offers a hand-crafted and milled surface from sustainably sourced wood. Of course, this mostly comes from the Czech Republic and usually within 100 km of the Moravian production plant. Only the walnut is imported from Austria. The surface is then provided with non-toxic beeswax.

Each charger has cork pads on the bottom to ensure a soft landing. The Qi standard is present to wirelessly charge any device that supports it. However, in the case of Apple devices, there is also MagSafe for magnetic attachment of the device. Although the magnets are relatively weak, they can still hold the wooden charger on the back of the iPhone when you pick it up.

In this case, compatibility is with iPhones 12 and 13, but also MagSafe charging cases for AirPods. Up to 15W charging is supported, of course, provided you use a suitable adapter. You won't find one in the package. The fascinating thing is that the whole solution looks like one single piece. But because there must be an induction coil and a printed circuit board with delicate control electronics inside, the upper and lower parts are glued together in this case.

An ideal direction even for "non-eco" users

If you look at the whole product through the eyes of the user, there is really nothing to complain about. Personally, I am so excited not only with the concept itself, but also with the design of the charger. Here we have a useful device that looks great (especially on wooden tables), is made of natural materials and is precisely handcrafted.

In addition, if there is no cable leading to it, or if it is skillfully hidden behind the table, the charger can actually look like a coaster or just a small kitchen cutting board. And that's the beauty of it. Add to that MagSafe compatibility with 15W charging and a bonus in the form of a cable made from waste, from which you will not only create electronic waste, but also partially compost it. In addition, you can grow your own bonsai. So where's the catch?

There is actually none here, if you accept the price set by the manufacturer. Depending on the variant, it ranges around the amount of 1 CZK, you can buy, for example, here. And now it just depends on your attitude towards the world and ecology itself. So you can buy a wireless charger for a few hundred that comes from China and has no added value, or you can reach for a treed charger, get MagSafe wireless charging and not litter the planet to such an extent with electronic and other waste.
