Last year, Apple started applying a new rule regarding the promotion of third-party applications in its Guidelines for the App Store. This rule, known as Clause 2.25, has caused a gradual phase-out of rebate tracking applications, most notably this year at download AppGratis.

Even the popular AppShopper was pulled a few months ago for violating the new rule, and those who didn't download the app by then (the app still worked after downloading it from the App Store) were out of luck. However, during that time, developers have been working on a new app that won't be a thorn in Apple's side, and a few days ago it finally appeared on the App Store as AppShopperSocial.

As the name suggests, social features are new to the app. AppShopper used to display a list of apps by price change or update directly from its portal. This model is now changing, at least to the eye. The basis for the displayed data is now "Friends", which you can add on the tab of the same name. Your "Stream" of applications will evolve according to who you follow, similar to Twitter.

At the very beginning, AppShopper will offer you to follow yourself, which will give you the same list of "popular" applications as on the portal pages or in the former application. But it doesn't end there. You can also add individual users if you know their nicknames. AppShopper has mentioned the accounts of some big sites like on its site Mac Stories whether Touch Arcade. Likewise, you can connect the app to Twitter, which will search for users among those you follow. Other applications are then added to the Stream based on the activity of friends. For example, if a game is reviewed on TouchArcade, it will appear in your list. However, if you just want AppShopper as you know it, just keep it in your Watchlist and you're good to go.

Other than a few graphic modifications, not much has changed in the application. You'll still find your Wish List and a list labeled "My Apps" here, you can filter your Stream as before by category, change type (new, update, discount), device (iPhone/iPad) or price (paid/free), even the notification settings for notifications about discounts and applications in your lists are the same. Conversely, the "What's New" and "Top 200" sections have disappeared, at least temporarily. A pleasant novelty is the optimization for iPhone 5, which the developers did not have time to implement before downloading the original application.

The return of AppShopper to the App Store is very welcome, especially after similar applications are gradually disappearing due to the application of the aforementioned rules. AppShopper Social is currently only available for iPhone, so don't delete the older app from your iPad just yet, at least until an update comes out that the developers in his own words they work
