It's almost a month since I bought my Apple iPad. I promised you that I would share my experience and so I bring you an iPad review from my point of view. Is it worth buying an Apple iPad or is it useless?
Package contents
Apple iPad packaging is typically minimalist, as we are used to. Don't expect any thick instructions, this time we will find an instruction in the form of a leaflet, which presents several steps - download iTunes, connect iPad to iTunes and register. Nothing more, Apple relies on the fact that everyone can learn to work with the iPad even without instructions.
In addition to the "leaflet" with instructions, we also find a charger and a USB cable. Some people will be upset that the package lacks headphones, while others may complain about the lack of a cloth for wiping the screen. I don't mind the missing headphones that much, I use the ones from the iPhone, but a cleaning cloth wouldn't hurt.
First iPad sync with iTunes
You can't work with your iPad until it syncs with iTunes for the first time. iTunes will ask you to register your device. There was a small problem here, iTunes didn't want to register my iPad, but I ended up doing the registration through the web and I postponed the registration directly in iTunes until later.
After that I could already choose what I wanted to upload to iTunes. Some iPhone applications are uploaded to the Appstore in so-called "universal binaries", so you only need one application that is created for both the iPhone screen and the larger iPad screen. Some developers, on the other hand, prefer a separate application for each device. For free apps, this may be a better solution, but if this solution is applied to paid apps, then you have to pay for the iPad app again.
It should be noted that until the iPad is officially sold in the Czech Republic, the Czech App Store accounts do not fully support the iPad. Although you can sometimes buy an iPad application (if you can search for it directly in iTunes), firstly, not all of them are in the CZ store, and secondly, it is not entirely convenient. If you want to access the Appstore from an iPad, you can only do so with a US account (more countries will be added gradually). I recommend using, for example, my instructions to set up a US account"How to create an iTunes (Appstore) US account for free".
Design and weight
It is not necessary to dwell here on the design of the Apple iPad as such, everyone has already made their own image. But I can say that in reality the iPad looks even better than I imagined. As for the weight, some will be surprised that the iPad is light, while others will tell you that it is heavier than they imagined. But you definitely won't be able to hold the iPad in your hand for a long time, and you'll need to lean it on something for longer use.
But I have to dwell on the quality of the display, where you will soon recognize the quality of the IPS panel. The colors of the display will simply captivate you. Everything looks sharp and full of color. I tested the iPad in direct sunlight, and if you're working in one of the apps, it's not so bad at full brightness. But as soon as you watch a darker film, you have to go outside of direct light, because at this point the film becomes unwatchable and you can only use the iPad as a mirror.
iPad speed
After the IPS display, another feature of the iPad will soon excite you. The Apple iPad is incredibly fast. I remember when I still admired the speed of the iPhone 3GS after switching from the 3G version and I experience the same feeling with the iPad. For example, Plants vs Zombies takes about 3 seconds to start on my iPhone 12GS. But it only takes 7 seconds to start on the iPad, with the fact that even the HD version starts on the iPad. Excellent, right?
Native app on iPad
After launch, the iPad contains several basic applications, as we are used to from the iPhone. In particular, we can find the Safari, Mail, iPod, Calendar, Contacts, Notes, Maps, Photos, Videos, YouTube and, of course, the iTunes and App Store settings and applications. So let's take a look at some of them.
Safari – You could say that it is just a scaled-up Internet browser from the iPhone. But that doesn't mean something is wrong! Safari is an excellent browser, and its simplicity only benefits it on a device like this. The only problem I have is that if I open several pages or a page with high memory requirements, it sometimes happens that Safari simply crashes. Hopefully Apple will debug this in one of the future firmwares. Also, don't expect Adobe Flash to run in Safari.
Kalendář – a large diary with upcoming events is priceless. If you like to organize your time, then you will like the basic application. Again, simplicity prevails here, but the calendar looks great and is a joy to work with. No important view is missing, so you can look at the daily, weekly or monthly schedule, but also take a look at upcoming events in the list. Perhaps only the taskmaster would stand out here, maybe sometime in the future.
Maps – iPad still uses Google Maps services, so nothing special that you are not used to. Again, I have to highlight the iPad display, on which the maps look great. Trips can be planned perfectly on such a large display.
YouTube – YouTube for iPad makes beautiful use of enlarged screens, so you often get caught up in just scrolling through YouTube videos, reading comments and the like. The Top Rated and Most Viewed tabs will support you in this. I didn't spend much time on YouTube on the iPhone, but it's definitely different with the iPad. When watching HD videos, you will again appreciate the quality of the display. In lower quality, it is no longer such a glory, because you soon get used to the quality of HD videos and then it is difficult to get used to something worse. You can watch widescreen videos either in their original form or stretch them (and thus crop the edges) across the entire screen.
Photos – What could be special about viewing photos on an iPad (no, I'm not really going to raise the iPad's display to the heavens again, although I could). Although you already know multitouch gestures from the iPhone, you will find some others in the iPad. Although it has no practical meaning, just playing with the photos will probably last you some time. Take a look at the video and judge for yourself!
Email – The client for managing e-mails in iPad uses the left column in landscape mode to display a list of the latest e-mails, while you can view e-mails in the wider right column. Gmail also created a similar interface in its web application for the iPad. You will definitely love this change, working with emails is much better after that.
Typing on the iPad
Typing speed on the touch screen was a big question before I bought the iPad. I'm fine typing on the touch screen on the iPhone, but how will it look with the large keyboard on the iPad? Anyway, it's different than typing on a classic physical keyboard. When typing, you have to constantly look at the keyboard, it will be difficult to write from memory.
However, I would definitely not want to write long texts on the iPad. The touch screen is great for short replies in emails, writing notes or managing a to-do list, but the iPad is not suitable for writing long texts. On the other hand, typing on the iPad isn't as slow as I'd expect. I found a 4 finger typing system and it works for me. I write short answers in a few sentences relatively quickly, so I bring my iPad with me to conferences to take notes.
It might also surprise someone that the iPad does not yet support Czech. First of all, the system is not in Czech, which many of you would certainly expect, but for now you won't even find a Czech keyboard, so you only have to type in "Czech".
iBooks and reading on the iPad
After entering the App Store, you can download the iBooks application, which is an ebook reader directly from Apple. Along with it, you will download the beautiful book Teddy Bear. The animations of flipping through the book will excite you. Personally, I'm used to reading from the iPhone display, so reading on the iPad doesn't cause me any problems, but probably not everyone is comfortable reading from an active display and will prefer a solution like Kindle or classic books.
What I like is the ability to easily buy a book from the iBook Store. As easy as buying apps in the App Store, you can also buy books. Unfortunately, the iBook Store is not currently planned for the Czech Republic, so you will have to make do with creating a US account and reading English books.
I also like the fact that even when the iPhone is in a vertical position, ebooks don't start right from the edge. iBooks has created fairly wide margins, which will make reading on the iPad much easier. In landscape mode, it displays exactly two pages as if you were reading a book. You will certainly welcome the Orientation Lock button, which locks the iPad in the given position, so that the iPad screen does not flip over while reading on its side.
For example, some PDF readers in the App Store try to use the entire desktop, and that is definitely a mistake. The document then becomes much more difficult to read. The biggest problem occurs when you have your iPad wide and the application formats your text across the entire screen. At this point, the document becomes unreadable for me because it is very uncomfortable to read. Fortunately, many developers are aware of this and thus always solve this "problem" in some way.
Battery life
When Steve Jobs introduced the iPad, he said that the iPad would last 10 hours of video playback. Some laughed because they expected this to be the classic theoretical maximum endurance when reading a book, but many people did not believe that this was real endurance.
I can confirm that my iPad actually lasts more than 10 hours with constant surfing, watching videos and playing with apps! Unbelievable, right? When just reading books, according to other reviewers, we get about 11-12 hours, on the other hand, when playing games intensively, the endurance drops to somewhere between 9 and 10 hours. The iPad 3G can last for around 3 hours when using a 9G network.
Using the iPad
I thought about the use of the iPad many times before buying it and tried to justify the purchase of this expensive gadget to myself. I don't know if the investment will pay off or not, in most cases I could still use a laptop, but it wouldn't be as convenient. So what do I primarily use the iPad for?
Surfing on the couch or in bed – I hate it when my laptop heats up my legs. The laptop also partially limits your movement, so you tend to adapt to the laptop. You won't solve this problem with the iPad. The iPad is an ideal device for the TV table, where anyone can borrow it at any time and go and try something on the Internet. Switching on is immediate and thus the iPad becomes a pleasant companion.
Notepad – an ideal tool for meetings or conferences. I write notes in Evernote, for example, so what I write on the iPad is then synchronized on the website or desktop. The iPad is not suitable for writing long texts, but it is excellent for taking notes.
Reading books – although I haven't used the iPad that much for reading books yet, it wouldn't be because the iPad isn't suitable for that, but rather because I don't have that much time. But I find reading on the iPad excellent.
Playing games – I'm not exactly a typical gamer who spends many hours a week (or even a day) playing games. But I liked playing minigames on the iPhone while traveling by tram. And with the iPad, I enjoy playing games such as Plants vs Zombies or Worms HD. The big screen gives these games new possibilities and you can play a lot of interesting games in the comfort of your bed or couch.
Reading the news – for the time being, you will only find foreign applications for reading news on the iPad in the App Store (and so you are more likely to use the website to read Czech news), but if you also like to read foreign news, you will find several interesting applications in the App Store. Everyone uses the larger iPad screen a little differently, and I'm curious to see where this will go. For now, I'm still waiting for a suitable RSS reader, but I'll definitely use the iPad RSS feed as well.
Social networks – I'm used to reading, for example, Twitter in bed before going to sleep, and that's even more convenient now with the iPad. But I wouldn't want to write with anyone for a long time via Instant Messaging on the iPad. The iPad is ideal for short conversations, but I wouldn't want to type on the touch keyboard for a long time.
Productivity – I've had the Things task manager on my iPad since day one. While I always used my iPhone more for capturing new tasks, I used the Mac application for sorting tasks. But now I often prefer to manage my tasks on the iPad. The only thing I'm missing is direct sync between iPad and iPhone, but that's a Things app-only problem and will surely be fixed soon.
Mind maps and presentations – I found an ideal tool for creating mind maps on the iPad called MindNode, which has both an iPad, iPhone and Mac version. Thus, the iPad became the ideal tool for me to sort my thoughts. I enjoy touch and feel more creative with the iPad and its touch. I then try to express these ideas, for example, in the form of a presentation, where the iWork package should serve, but more on that another time.
Watching a movie on the go – the iPad screen is not only of high quality, but also large enough to make watching a movie or series enjoyable. The iPad can be used, for example, even on a flight to America, when the flight takes a really long time - the iPad's battery can handle it without any problem!
Digital frame - ok, I don't use the iPad like this yet, but someone might like this feature :)
As you can see, as a result, the iPad has nothing that cannot be replaced by a laptop. So is it even worth it? Certainly! The convenience at work is worth it, instant switching on is priceless and you will appreciate the long endurance, for example, at conferences without the possibility of connecting the laptop to the network.
Cons
Of course, the Apple iPad also has a few flaws. Let's start in order:
Missing Flash – we should probably ask if this is really such a disadvantage or if it is rather not the evolution of the modern web. Flash is gradually being replaced on major websites by HTML5, in which many people see the future. There will be no need to have any additional plugin, but only a modern secure internet browser. The load on the processor is much lower and the browser is much more stable. Perhaps temporarily, one can talk about the lack of Flash support as a minus.
Camera – so I would definitely welcome it here on the iPad. I wrote that I don't enjoy long-term typing with someone via the touch keyboard on the iPad. But that could be solved easily by supporting video chat. Apple wants to hide something for the next generation, I'm not looking for more.
multitasking – I don't particularly need multitasking on the iPhone, but I would really welcome it on the iPad. For example, I would like to have a running Instant Messaging program like Skype turned on. But this is only a temporary minus, because these problems will be solved by iPhone OS 4. Unfortunately, we will not see iPhone OS 4 for iPad until the fall of this year.
Without USB connector – iPad again uses a classic Apple dock cable and not a standard USB cable. I personally don't particularly need it, but someone would certainly like to connect an external keyboard to the iPad, for example. This problem can be partially solved using the so-called Camera kit, but more on that in another article.
Non-existent multiple account management – so I would see this as the biggest weakness of the current iPad. The device will probably be used by several people in the household, so it would not be bad at all if it were possible to create multiple profiles for individual members of the household. Let everyone have their notes with them, so you don't have to worry about your child's important work documents being deleted.
It attracts attention – some might like it, some will definitely hate it. The Apple iPad is not exactly a typical device in our area, so expect that whenever you pull out the iPad, it will attract attention. It wouldn't matter so much when reading books or watching a movie, but don't count on the fact that, for example, writing tasks or events on the calendar in public transport would be pleasant if three other people are looking over your shoulder.
Which model to buy?
Do you like the Apple iPad despite these flaws, but you can't decide which model to buy? I personally bought an Apple iPad 16GB WiFi. For what reason? I don't use the iPad as a portable library of music and movies, so I simply wouldn't take up more space. iPad apps and games still aren't so big that I need more space. In addition to applications, I also carry a few video podcasts, movies and a few episodes of series on the iPad, but I certainly don't use the iPad as a storage for movies. So it really depends on how you plan to use the device.
If you plan to watch movies on your iPad at home, even 16GB might be too much for you. There is an Air Video application (in the App Store for a few crowns) that streams video in perfect quality from your computer to your iPad. I will definitely mention this app in one of the reviews.
WiFi or 3G model? That depends on you. It is often enough to download content to the iPad in a place where WiFi is available and then consume this content on public transport. There is no need to be on the Internet all the time. And what are we talking about, you will still use the iPad mostly at home or on long trips where there is no high-quality 3G network and you will have to rely on the slower Edge or GPRS. And do you really want to pay more internet tariffs?
Buy an iPad case?
This isn't exactly a traditional paragraph for an Apple iPad review, but I decided to mention it here. I'm not going to discuss here whether it is necessary to protect the iPad or not, but I will look at the cover from a slightly different point of view.
Some cases are not only used to protect the iPad, but you can also partially position it. I have to say that just putting the iPad on your feet and then writing is not very pleasant, so it is advisable to have some inclination. This is exactly what some cases are used for (such as the original Apple case), when you can tilt the iPad a little using this case. Writing is then much more pleasant and accurate. I personally bought the cover in the Czech iStyle from Macally.
The neighborhood's reaction to the iPad
A lot of people had my iPad in their hands (although not as many as Petr Mára's iPad), so I tested people's reactions to it. Someone would like to buy it for their children, someone likes it as a device for presentations, everyone mostly found some use for it. But everyone really liked the Apple iPad. Although some were very skeptical of the iPad at first, they changed their minds after a few minutes with the iPad in hand. Surprisingly, even iPhone detractors liked the iPad.
Verdict
So is the Apple iPad worth buying or not? I'll leave that up to you. For example, re-read the paragraph with my use of the iPad and try to match it to yourself. You have to answer for yourself if you use the laptop intensively and you are bothered, for example, by its greater weight, temperature or anything else.
Personally, I don't regret buying an Apple iPad for a minute. It is an excellent helper at home and on the go. At the moment, the App Store is in its infancy, but over time, even better applications will appear here, which will make full use of the iPad's capabilities. The developers got a new platform, now let's just wait and see what they have in store for us. In the next few days, I will bring you reviews of individual iPad applications!
Nice article, one rewrite I registered, in the paragraph about Safari: ...enlarged internet browser from iPad.
thanks, fixed! :)
I have an iPad and I highly recommend it. Everyone around me is excited about them, they all want to play with him. In short, it's another Apple device that, despite all the negative shouts, captivates at first glance, even the sworn naysayers (at least the ones I know) admit that "there's something to it" :)
Otherwise, I personally use the iPad both for entertainment (movies, photos - showing photos to others is really effective :), music...) and for work - just today I demonstrated to my boss what it can do. He stood for a moment and then just said "wow".
Only the App Store to put together and for us to upgrade Exchange to (at least) the 2007 version :)
I'm glad I'm not the only one who has had this experience of showing the iPad to sworn enemies :)
I also had the opportunity to try the iPad in Alza and the display is simply divine and excellent at the same time! The speed then, I started real racing and because I have an iPhone 3G I turned my head away until it loaded, when I didn't have time to turn my head because the game was already it loaded, just great, I think Safari is great, it handles a bunch of bookmarks at once without a problem and loading is lightning fast, writing is great, but I can't lie, I had to leave it on the table to have some fixed position, viewing photos is ok, the function just I don't need to, the map is also clear with such a beautiful display and I got the New York Times, I stared at it for 2 minutes, I hope Czech newspapers will also bring such news, I don't really need the calendar, but it looks better than on the iPhone, but I didn't like it , there was Google Earth, an iPhone application and the pixels were terrible, and the iPhone keyboard appeared there, so phew, I would use it to read books, even now I can't get to a book because of work, so I would take this one, however, I chose a mac mini, I will be new when it comes to Apple, even though I have an iP, the iPad is a bit expensive toy for the Czech Republic and Slovakia, but the price will surely go down and then maybe, where did you buy it?
Thanks for the reaction to the iPad, this is how I usually react to everyone. The speed is really breathtaking. My iPad was imported from the USA before it was available in CR, so I wouldn't be able to get it. Although Alza surprised today, alas, a little too with the price :)
This is probably the first time I really didn't like your article. It looks like you wrote it in 20 minutes and didn't even read it through. Don't take it the wrong way, it just seems that way to me, and I may well be the only one with this opinion.
You wanted to write about the experience, you have a problem with registration, but you don't write about it, but you throw the contents of the package there. You write about the value of the battery life and you write about a 3G model that you don't actually have, and even if you can trust the tables from Apple or reviews from abroad, it is a mistake to pretend that you have it tested. Are the books on the iPad not in Czech? Yes, the convenience of downloading something that has already been done is nice, but ePub is an open system and therefore you can easily get a book written in Czech, possibly another language. The same thing from the keyboard, if I leave out the original one, you can use it via BT. I also tolerate typos, I write every one and I subscribe to every one, but I would say that if you read it again, they will hit you in the eye (then again, there aren't that many) And all this leads me to criticize this article, maybe I will be the only one, but still, it is my opinion. Then sometime next time :-)
p.sonny: I take criticism, if you like the rest of my articles, I'm happy :) It's hard to describe everything I like about the iPad so it doesn't sound superficial. He only briefly described the problem with registration, writing that is to be solved in the forum rather than in the article, or in a separate article. I don't think it really belongs in the review to go into detail about it.
I described the real durability of my model, I also wanted to mention the 3G model, because it will make people think about it. And if another 5 reviewers around the world write about you, you can believe it :)
As for ePub and other book embedding, I think that is a topic for another article... There are also a lot of accessories, I would like to mention the Camera kit and the BT keyboard, but on the other hand, I have no experience with that, so that's for this review don't belong
But I take it differently, it's often just superficial, but it was different. It is already too long, so it is appropriate to discuss some topics separately in other articles :)
dude, nice article, but I admit that I'm also stuck with those e-books, because I've already read elsewhere that it's cool, that you can get the book in the Czech language too, so we don't have to worry, and you like this! it's possible for another and longer article, but even with a small mention I wouldn't forget to comment on it so that it doesn't really make it so scary .-) there are people who read it and go to get lost somewhere on digitale.cz that it's good, they'll just go there books from the appstore and it doesn't work here, so it's another apple store completely worthless...
:-)
The article is really very beautifully written, without the emotions of an ardent fan with a dose of reality for everyday life. I have owned an Ipad 16 GB Wi-fi for 4 days now and I am completely satisfied. I also recommend some protective element. Since I have an iPhone 3GS, I am fully aware of the uselessness of the 3G network. I run on wifi at home where I use it the most.
Vladislav
Thanks for the article. I've had the iPad for 5 days and it's great. Since I'm weaned from Apple (Mac LC and Classic in 1992), I had to have it. Today I bought a case in iStyle on Andel in P5 - they have enough of the type in stock. Hi.
As easy as buying books on the App Store, it's that easy to buy books.
That sentence doesn't make sense to me...
thanks, fixed.. of course there should have been an application.. when a person stares at his text for a long time, he somehow doesn't see the illogic :)
Sonny, hey, that's a hard fact :) I tried to write something about the iPhone 3G myself, and I sat at the PC all day and figured it out, it's twice as hard with an iPad, hey, do you know who I saw on Sunday? It was Hulan, at least I think, had such a hideous head and such a strange expression in HD 2, I think it was him
In addition to the above, I actually wanted to share a minor ailment of the iPod on the iPad. For some reason, I can't play music videos the same way as on the Mac = one clip is played, but not all of them in the playlist... Has anyone figured out how to achieve this? I will be grateful for any help :) Thanks.
I have an iPad, it's a great toy and the article is great :-)
Today I finally forced myself to take out the old Nokia wireless keyboard from the store in the garage. It's a folding charger for 2 mini-pencil batteries (I estimate 2x9x14 cm when folded) in a high-quality metal case, wireless via BT. To my surprise it works! The newest BT Apple metal one works, the first Apple one, the plastic one, couldn't pair. It behaves very correctly in the iPad system. I write in Pages and when I turn it on, the software one disappears immediately and vice versa. In the system, I need cursors for the soft keyboard! SELECT, COPY, PASTE, CAPS LOCK, CURSOR MOVEMENTS all work with this Nokia. Does anyone have experience with other BT peripherals (audio, etc.)? The only thing that doesn't work is writing CZ characters (even those that are there now, special characters go through ALT) - the soft keyboard cannot be called up when pairing BT KB. Or I can't. That's why what I write now with Nokia KB on the iPad does not have CZ diacritics.
Keyboard type sounds like Nokia SU-W8 in preferences.
Hello everyone, if anyone is interested, I have a couple of iPAD 16 GB WIFI for sale. They are already in CR, so they can be collected immediately... mail: haasteren@seznam.cz. I think that Mr. Primo's colleague got the article from us :)
Dobrý den
Do you still have an iPad for sale?
Hello,
I would like to buy an iPad, but they don't really have it anywhere.
Can you recommend where I can buy it?
Ipad in stock again at Alza.cz
And why is the price of the iPad in the Czech Republic higher than in the USA?
It is very difficult to get an iPad these days. There are no official dates for deliveries to the Czech Republic yet. iPads must therefore be imported by air directly from the USA. In addition, customs duties and shipping costs will be added to the price. We also guarantee a 24-month warranty in contrast to the 12-month warranty that is provided as standard in America (you can get a two-year warranty in the USA for an additional fee of USD 99, i.e. approx. 2000 CZK without VAT). And besides, iPads are not completely freely available anywhere. The order limit is 2 pieces per customer, so it is very difficult to get the necessary quantity. There is no possibility to buy the iPad wholesale and the only option is to buy it individually from the official Apple Store. These reasons lead to a higher price of the device on the Czech market.
It is so. Suddenly I got an echo that today in Alza they gave it to PPL. Too bad they didn't make it before the weekend or that I couldn't change the subscription to personal. And the price? I can have it from the USA from a friend, but the warranty, VAT, accounting document... I'll pay a few thousand extra for that.
When connecting a bluetooth keyboard, they can write Czech characters on the iPad, thanks
Macropus: they don't work, we have to wait for OS 4 I think...
Will there not be a problem with Czech on devices imported from the USA?
There will be no problem at all. The display, even with the current OS, is fully Czech - the website, emails, a list of contacts loaded from MobileMe, the calendar, simply everything. Time and date + currency also available in CZ. The only problem is the keyboard - some characters (mostly Czech) are still there. Books downloaded in ePub format and uploaded to the iPad also display everything correctly in Czech (I think there are 6 fonts in Books and half of them are Czech). Even now, when something is at stake and I'm writing an important email and I want it to be fully Czech, I have a Czech ASCII table in my iPad, which I COPY-PASTE, for example, into Pages, and then, albeit inconveniently, I still use all Czech characters.

Hi Folks
Gadgets. Nothing more, nothing less. Great marketing hype around the "pluses" of a device that is really ONLY good for showing off. There are FAR more cons to be found than just the ones described. I only remember the max memory is 64GB. Yeah, it's an overpriced, flimsy piece of crap for carrying around town and showing off "hey what I've got". Well, Apple hasn't been dictating trends for years, just explaining that what it should have "will be in the next version".
I am a vascular surgeon, I use an iPhone at work, there are a lot of programs for doctors and surgeons. I'm looking forward to the IPad because I'll be using it a lot for work... by no means is it just a WOW device, something to brag about...
look for example at:
http://www.crunchgear.com/2010/06/02/video-japanese-doctors-use-ipad-during-surgery/
Tom.
Son, this is a discussion about iPad experiences that you obviously don't have. I don't understand your outbursts. I give my experience with durable batteries for the better. . The capacity is really enough for a whole day of work, I charge it at night and it goes from morning to evening. And above all, they don't feel like laptops on my feet...
Girl, the "son" is forty-eight years old and has experience with everything from wind turbines to iPads. I don't have to buy it to be able to try it out (those three days were really enough for me to test everything). I apologize if I offended anyone, I'm used to speaking my mind. Including the effects of excellent marketing on weaker individuals. Another note: Petro, compare comparables, the IPad is not a laptop. Apple laptops heat up just as "nicely" as other brands. Ergo, your "experience" is nice, but off the mark.
Petra talked about the fact that the iPad does not heat up on the knees compared to laptops... and I have to agree with her, the iPad simply does not heat up..
yes, and the iPad just isn't a laptop. But it's probably hard to understand. Compare comparables, i.e. tablet with tablet, not ntb. I can then say that apart from the fact that it "doesn't heat up", such an iPad can do absolutely NOTHING compared to the average MacBook. Well, that was my last post in the discussion. But keep grinding yours :)
Great review, I was thinking about buying an iPad myself, but in the end I decided on a tablet (XT2) because he sent me notes. If you are considering using a tablet as a full-fledged work tool, I recommend a solution from Dell, with the fact that you have both a tablet and a notebook in one.
Hello to all of you.
I have a question for iPad owners, do you have a problem with the wifi connection? Specifically, what happens to me is that when I wake up the iPad after a certain time from sleep, it does not automatically connect to the given wifi network. I have to turn wifi off and on to get it to connect again. Also, when loading a video in the YouTube app, it does not buffer the entire video, but cuts out after some time. Of course, I googled, I tried almost everything possible, but I still haven't gotten rid of the problem. I just have to try another wifi router. The question for those of you who don't have such problems, what router are you using? Apart from this problem, the iPad is great!
Btw: good article!

Very nice article. However, I would like to add one piece of information. How exactly is it with movie playback? Does the divx need to be converted, or can it be uploaded directly to the iPad somehow?
divx needs to be converted..
And how time-consuming is it? Is it realistic to transfer some 3-4 movies while charging the iPad in the PC?
Try AirVideo .. it will convert the movie even on the fly :)
Sorry for the OT but I have to respond.
Choros: Thank you so much for the great app tip! I only have an iPhone so far, but it's great on that too - it'll be absolutely perfect on the iPad. It exactly solves my problem when I'm watching a movie on the PC, I'd like to go to the lying position, but I don't want to drag and drop the movie to the iPhone (iPad). This is just the bomb. I don't understand how I've been able to function without this app until now, and I also don't understand the conflicting reactions on the Appstore. Fortunately, I didn't let them scare me away;-)
I have two questions:
1.) Does SKYPE work on it? – not a chat, but a phone call
2.) If I have mobile Internet on my mobile phone and I want to use it as a wifi router for the I-pad, would that work?
Otherwise, I like this device very much
mak: 1) I have not personally tried the iPhone version of Skype, but I assume that calling with an iPad should not be a problem
2) if the phone can function as a wifi router, then the iPad has no problem connecting to the wifi.
Dear Sir, Thank you for the information about the IPad. I own an IPhone3 and I am very satisfied. Now
I am considering an IPad. I normally work on a Mac both at home and in the office.
So keep asking, I'm going to pick it up tomorrow :-))))
I just want to ask, what is the ideal cover for the Ipad? Which will last
Thanks a lot
Nice review, I just want to correct a couple of mistakes:
"Flash is gradually being replaced by HTML5 on major websites, in which many people see the future. There will be no need to have any additional plugin, but only a modern secure internet browser. The load on the processor is much lower and the browser is much more stable. Perhaps, temporarily, the lack of Flash support can be considered a minus."
HTML5 is significantly more demanding than flash, in terms of effect. Maybe not when playing a video, but some basic effects in HTML5 can very easily use the CPU of a DESKTOP PC to 100%. It is not optimized like flash.
"And what are we going to talk about, you will still use the iPad most at home or on long trips where there is no high-quality 3G network and you will have to rely on the slower Edge or GPRS. And do you really want to pay more internet tariffs?"
I don't understand this somehow - you have only one internet tariff and the mobile automatically switches to 3G/Edge or GPRS depending on what is currently available.
Hello, do you have a tip where to buy? Alza.cz is of course not. The price of 18 for the weakest version of the iPad, including VAT, is completely out of line. Does anyone have experience with buying in Austria? A couple of km can be seen and the price is 499 euros = approx. 12500
I bought it in Germany for 499 - well, I didn't notice any problems. The only thing that confused me when I opened it around the corner for a beer was that nothing was working :D but you can solve it according to the picture by connecting it to another computer and registering on the relevant pages. Otherwise, everything runs in English on MAC anyway.
Thanks for the nice article, I'm thinking about the Ipad and looking for the information I need. There's only one thing I'm missing here, and that's GPS support. If my information is correct, full GPS is only included with the 3G version of the iPad. Which makes me prefer this version. Perhaps this is indeed the case, the information is not entirely clear. If someone could confirm this for me or adding to the article would be nice.
So thank you for definitely the best article on the net about the iPad...
I'm devouring information from all possible servers and I can't wait for it anymore...
I hesitated between the combination of Samsung galaxy S/Galaxy Tab vs iphone/ipad and now I know that the galaxy Tab lost for me.. now I just have to decide whether to keep my Nokia N900 or replace it with a Galaxy s/Iphone..
thanks to jailbreak and VLC and a lot of applications and accessories, the iphone will probably win...
I'm going to keep gobbling up info about iphone/ipad communication and their synchronization...
To be honest, I think the latest version of Android 2,2 is better, but curling up under the blanket in bed in the warmth and surfing the Internet on the iPad is really comfortable.

I have already encountered the fact that the iPhone and iPad do not connect to the wifi that I provide via the PC. So I connect but only in the case of unsecured WiFi, if I want to use WPA2-Personal security, not a single "i" device will connect to WiFi, other devices will connect without a problem. So the problem is most likely in the provision of the security key. The "i" device connects without any problem to secured WiFi if it is an APN and not a "hotspot connection" between PCs with subsequent connection sharing, these connections must be unsecured.
Thanks for the advice. It's exactly in the security. When WEP 128 Bits is switched to OPEN SYSTEM, the ipad connects. It's just a mystery to me why I've never been able to do without a password in the US. I will try again. Greetings!!!
So to close the debate, everything OK in the end. The problem was an incorrect password. Instead of the WIFI password from O2, it was necessary to insert WEP key 1 (Key #1) as the password and everything works as it should. Hello!!!
I'd come to go along with you on this. Which is not something I typically do! I love reading a post that will make people think. Also, thanks for allowing me to comment!
I have a technical question. Can iPad connect to computer or not? That is, whether it has an ordinary cable to connect to a PC, such as an iPhone.
I'm afraid that if I buy it, I'll have to buy it through iTunes.
Thank you in advance for your reply.
Of course, the iPad can be connected to the computer. The synchronization USB cable is included in the delivery.
You are not forced to buy applications, in the App Store you can find many games and other applications for free. iTunes is used to sync photos, music, movies and backup/upload data from iPad. You can't do without them.
I would like to ask if it is possible to call from an iPad, I didn't read it anywhere, thank you ;)
Marek – you can only make calls from Skype, you can't make calls from the iPad yet, not even from the 3G version.
Hello,
Are you going to write a new article, something like a long-term review? where would you describe which applications you have deleted during the time you have owned it and which ones you must not miss? Also, which case did you stay with, is the battery life still the same as when you bought it?
In the end, what do you mostly use your iPad for, etc...
Thank you, Daniel
Thanks for the topic. We are considering it in the editorial office.
I would like to contribute my point of view. I bought an Apple iPad at the beginning of December 2010. I decided on the variant with 32 GB of memory as the ideal middle ground, including a 3G module for frequent Internet connections outside of Wifi networks. I bought the iPad with the intention of purchasing a device where I can primarily consume content in many categories from entertainment to productivity. I would briefly summarize the individual points as follows.
– Portable device, quality construction, battery life
– Immediate readiness for operation, push notification)
– Dealing with standard matters (emails, social networks, internet, document editing, cloud solution support, use of remote desktop – RDP, TeamViewer)
– Entertainment in the form of games and multimedia (TV, radio, video)
– Easy to use, confident and sophisticated touch and gestures
– Immediate reactions and switching of running applications
– Content, its purchase and updating formed into a single system
I mainly use the iPad for general web browsing, for which I use the iCab Mobile Browser, which combines perfect work with several open tabs, similar to desktop browsers. iCab contains many adult functions from importing bookmarks from Mozilla Firefox, automatic filling of login forms, an integrated download manager with support for opening with an associated application, YouTube downloader, filters, ad blocking, etc. The iPad fully provides me with net functions, including access via the company extranet or Servis24 internet banking. Browsing the pages itself is very convenient, fast, and thanks to iCab, the combination of bookmarks/tabs and gesture support is ideal. During the time of using the iPad, I did not have the urge for content in the Adobe Flash format, so I also do not completely understand people who curse the absence of Flash and consider this absence to be essential. For a few individuals, I managed to find out that the priority in this absence is usually equal to the impossibility of playing content on the servers tn.cz, stream.cz (an app for iOS is planned ), or others, so in the end, at least from my point of view, it is not about a fundamental issue. Another of the activities I can name is browsing the AppStore, which I do not highlight here as an advantage, rather as an internal and integral part of the OS itself (just as android has its Market). I often browse the AppStore by TOP ranking or individual categories, because the content in the form of apps and games is top-notch and gives me the opportunity to choose a wide range of apps and games from entertainment to productivity. Currently, many developers of applications, games and web servers, which were known mainly from desktop OSes, or as Internet applications and services themselves, are successfully and in large numbers appearing as separate versions for iOS. Their works are often more successful than their websites or desktop versions. As an illustrative example, I would like to mention the application FlighRadar24, which serves aviation fans to monitor civil air traffic around the world, including information about the flight number, type of aircraft, photos of the aircraft, current speed and altitude of the flight, and possibly the starting and final destination. I spend a lot of time with this app in particular.
Another of the regular activities I use on the iPad is the consumption of information and news, where applications written for iOS are explicitly encouraged for this purpose. I regularly read news, news and interesting information. For this purpose, I usually use the Pulse Reader application, or MobileRSS HD, which offers synchronization from RSS feeds from a Google account. As another source of information, the ČTK application is worth paying attention to, which is used for convenient reading of news from home and abroad. I also download magazines in PDF format and then categorize them in the iBooks application, where they are clearly arranged, including a preview of the front covers. I must also not forget the interactive magazine "Computer" and "Only for men", which I never read in paper form or had the need to buy. Only the interactive look and the one-click payment made me a regular reader. The reading itself is thus enriched with interesting interactive elements in the form of videos, interviews or pictures. I don't have videos on my iPad, and I don't have to plan to in the long run. To watch movies, I use the Air Video application, which streams shared content via the local network (or outside it) directly to the iPad, not only on the level of the internal network, but also outside. In this way, I can practically watch all the movies (from SD to HD) that I have stored on my computer directly, when the conversion and performance requirements take place on the computer's side, or choose offline conversion for future transfer to the iPad. The only downside is that the PC is always on. In case I convert movies directly to the iPad, I have already purchased the Buzz Player, which will play the video files without the necessary conversion to the Apple format. Is there a TV? Not a problem. For this purpose, I use the regular DVB-T USB module AverTV HD Pro, which I have connected to my home computer. Thanks to the DVB Viewer application, I stream all tuned TV channels both on the local network and outside it. The DVB Viewer application is fully optimized for iPhone/iPad use, so after logging in via a public IP address, you will be greeted by a pleasant interface with an overview of channels, EPG, recording timer and, last but not least, selection of the stream speed according to the current connection.
As for productivity itself, I process and deal with mail from four email boxes, one of which is defined as a company Exchange. Working with the integrated email client is easy and well operational. The iPad taught me not to ramble on about email, but to respond briefly and to the point. For working with documents, I use the QuickOffice Mobile Suite office package, which supports editing and two-way transfer using cloud solutions from GoogleDocs or Dropbox. So I simply open the document, edit it as needed and then save it back. This allowed me to work efficiently with documents that did not require the use of a USB flash drive. If a hitch occurs in QuickOffice in the form of more complicated tables, I let the document open in Pages or Numbers, which are more compatible in terms of compatibility. Here, however, I can only send the document by email, save it in the device's memory, or use the cloud solution from MobileMe iDisk, which is unfortunately only free for 60 days.
Another activity that I often use is the need for a remote connection, both to a home computer and a company server. Sometimes there is also a case where I can solve a problem with a friend with remote help. For this purpose, the very well-known Team Viewer HD, or iTap, which communicates via the standard RDP protocol including NTLA verification, fully serves me. You thus have at your disposal a convenient and, above all, full-fledged control, which is very intuitive thanks to touches and gestures. For other needs, there is another series of VNC or MobileMe based applications in the AppStore. If I don't do any of the above then I'm running for dear life, the form of entertainment is incredibly addictive on the iPad and it's not just single player. I would mention, for example, Angry Birds, Angry Birds Season, Cut the Rope, Blimp HD, Flight Control HD, Guns ´n´Glory, Reckless Racing, Defender Chronicles HD, Dungeon Hunter 2, Dead Space, Mrázik, Polda 2, Red Alert, Cover Orange, Plants vs Zombies, Zombie War HD and many other high quality games that will provide many hours of entertainment. I recently purchased the Navigon Europe app, so the usage is getting a little more in-depth again, but I'll admit that with the iPad on board and the nav running, I felt like a bit of an outlier. And if my iPad is just rolling around on the table, I launch the Gaze application, which presents a nice fireplace with the pleasant sound of crackling wood. When my colleague saw this, I slowly did not get her out of the office.
In summary, I use the iPad primarily for the Internet, as well as receiving information and consuming entertainment. In terms of productive activities from drawing graphs, creating and editing documents, remote connection, working with emails, the iPad is a good helper thanks to the possibility of acquiring quality content. If someone wants to tell me that the iPad is not at all less productive, then it's a shame that they didn't want to invest a few bucks in applications that can easily and very comfortably support it, including two-way synchronization with cloud solution support. One thing is iron, it's like any other, but the quality software form and its content make the iPad a good and useful device that I personally use more easily and more often than a laptop. However, I am not saying that the iPad will replace the laptop, by no means... Anyone who buys an iPad with the idea of replacing a laptop is in trouble. I do not consider the USB port, which is often criticized, to be a fundamental shortcoming, because I consider the cloud solution to be a more pleasant and affordable form. However, I will not pretend that the idea of a USB port would not be pleasant and that many things could be solved more simply and, above all, universally. I have a desktop computer and a laptop at home, which I rarely use after buying an iPad. Currently, my laptop sits in my closet and my computer just streams video content and TV channels. Every morning, sinking into the chair, tapping on the iPad and having information immediately in front of you is highly addictive. Another thing is the closedness of the iOS system, the train just doesn't go through it, but on the other hand, what would you necessarily want to modify on the iPad? I have a feeling that nothing in the final. That it would be a response from the time of Windows Mobile 5/6 and registries and various modifications? That's a nice thing, but I think that most of us who have enjoyed the glorious journey with Windows Mobile will not enjoy it for long, and I'm afraid that such a time of editing and tuning has long since rung its bell. Personally, at the moment I prefer to use a fast, stable OS with a content-rich side of 3rd party applications and games. As the owner of a phone with Android OS and a long-time user of Windows Mobile, I also consider this system to be closed in a way, because I can't think of anything that I could adjust or modify on Android. My idea is thus directed towards the content and its usability, which primarily indicates the usability of the given device.
So that's my resume with the iPad so far. What did I conclude? A person doesn't have to be a sheep, it's enough if he knows what to expect from it and is able to find a solution instead of pointless debates about the usability of the given device, which he wasn't able to spend a little time on.
Absolutely beautifully, succinctly, concisely said - expressed! I am respectfully and exactly of your opinion…
That's exactly what California is all about, addictive and functional.
I am excited and even more encouraged to buy a pair. Let 14205.w5.wedos.net (who I otherwise applaud and praise) adopt a similar writing style…
I'm actually reading this website on a borrowed iPad, it adds diacritics from the iPad itself, and I'd be able to manage it quite often, but why isn't even this website optimized for the iPad at all? Why, perhaps http://www.zive.cz mobilmania, and other very heavily visited websites look as horrible on the iPad as this otherwise very interesting website? It really bothers me that 1/4 to 1/3 of the width of the page is occupied by a field with an undisplayed flash advertisement, which completely degrades the quality of the iPad as a web browser.
I went over this internet site and I believe you have a lot of wonderful information, saved to my bookmarks (:.
good day…if i want to download a free app from the APP STORE do i have to have a credit card? It keeps telling me that I don't have a password for I TUNES, but when I sign up, it asks for my credit card number...but I don't want to buy anything...thanks
"Surprisingly, even iPhone haters liked the iPad." Totally agree :) on PC Windows, Android mobile and nothing else...but I have an iPad and I'm selling it soon because I'm buying an iPad2 :)
Hi, thanks for a lot of info on the ipad. I'm blown away by the compactness, speed, battery, simplicity, and basically I'm convinced that for what I need something portable (netbook, notebook, tablet...) it seems like an ideal choice. I have been thinking about him for a long time BUT I still have some questions and I would be happy for any advice on them.
Add1, I'm not sure if it's possible to live without USB (I carry a large part of my data on a flash drive and it suits me)
Add2 I still haven't quite understood how it is with reading files in doc and xcl, I probably won't survive without them (at work)...
Thanks a lot in advance for any advice
MERIN
1/ The Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit reads SD cards. Or today is a free app iFlash Drive. It will "turn" your iPad into a flash drive.
2/ Read or edit e.g. iWorks, Documents To Go, Office 2 HD, Quickoffice... on the iPad
I want to ask how uploading photos to the iPad is, is it difficult, it will ruin the quality, because I take pictures with a SLR camera and I would also like an iPad as a photo viewer, what is your experience??, thanks
I would like to ask how many paid apps are in the App Store? And for how much? Thank you
I have an iPad, but I can't log in to my apple id because of my age, and now I can easily write there that I'm 40 and it still won't let me in, it says something about my age, I don't know what to do anymore :(
