In this regular column, every day we look at the most interesting news that revolves around the California company Apple. Here we focus exclusively on the main events and selected (interesting) speculations. So if you are interested in current events and want to be informed about the apple world, definitely spend a few minutes on the following paragraphs.

Apple announced the first new product this year

In yesterday's regular summary, we hinted that we could already wait for the presentation of the first apple news this year. After all, this was reported by CBS, where Apple CEO Tim Cook himself was the guest of the interview. At the same time, we were warned that this is not a new product, but a significantly bigger "thing". During today's day, the Californian giant came through press release he finally boasted - and as it seems, the vast majority of domestic apple sellers wave their hands over it, because the news applies almost exclusively to the United States. These are new Apple projects in the fight against racism.

The Cupertino company has been fighting racism for several years and is now trying to solve this problem more effectively. It is precisely for this reason that it is going to support a lot of new projects, where probably the most important article is the financing of entrepreneurs in the Black and Brown initiative. Another relatively large part of this news is the Propel Center support. It is a physical and virtual campus that is created to help along with the education of people from various minorities. Further improvement will then be directed to the Apple Developer Academy in the American city of Detroit.

Qualcomm is set to buy chip startup Nuvia

Apple phones enjoy worldwide popularity mainly due to their design, operating system and incredibly powerful chips. According to the latest information from the agency Reuters the Qualcomm company has already concluded an agreement to acquire the start-up Nuvia, which is dedicated to the creation of chips and was even founded by former designers of the chips themselves from Apple. The price should then be 1,4 billion dollars, i.e. about 30,1 billion crowns. With this move, Qualcomm is trying to better compete with companies like Apple and Intel.

But let's say something more about the mentioned start-up Nuvia. Specifically, this company was founded by three former Apple employees who worked on the design and development of the A-series chips, the ones we can find in iPhones, iPads, Apple TVs and HomePods. Among the most fundamental projects of this company is their own processor design, which is primarily intended for the needs of servers. However, some sources say that Qualcomm is going to use the new know-how to create chips for flagships, laptops, car infotainment and car assistance systems.

With this step, Qualcomm is trying to get to the top and take a leading position again after years of problems. The acquisition itself could also relieve the companies of their previous dependence on Arm, which was also bought for $40 billion by the giant Nvidia. Most of Qualcomm's chips are licensed directly by Arm, which could change with the use of technologies developed by start-up Nuvia.

iPhone sales up 10% worldwide

The past year has brought with it many challenges in the face of the global COVID-19 pandemic. Precisely because of this health crisis, the smartphone market saw an 8,8% decline, with a total of 1,24 billion units sold. The latest information has now been provided by a survey DigiTimes. On the other hand, phones with 5G support fared relatively well. In this not-so-favorable situation, Apple even recorded a 10% increase in iPhone sales compared to 2019. Samsung and Huawei then experienced a double-digit decline, while only the aforementioned Apple and Xiaomi recorded an improvement.
