Press Release: QNAP, a leading provider of computing, networking and storage solutions, has officially released QTS 4.4.1. In addition to integrating Linux Kernel 4.14 LTS to support next-generation hardware platforms, QNAP expands the utility of NAS by incorporating highly anticipated services, including a cloud storage gateway that facilitates the use of hybrid cloud storage and applications, resource-based deduplication to optimize backup and recovery efficiency, Fiber Channel solutions SAN and much more.

"We gathered useful feedback from users who were beta testing QTS 4.4.1 and thanks to that we were able to prepare the official release," said Ken Cheah, product manager at QNAP, adding: "Our focus in the recent QTS update was to integrate cloud storage services to help organizations seamlessly use the cloud for storage while securing on-premises data and applications for a variety of user scenarios."

Key new apps and features in QTS 4.4.1:

  • HybridMount – File cloud storage gateway
The improved and renamed HybridMount (formerly CacheMount) product integrates NAS with major cloud services and enables low-latency cloud access via local cache. Users can also take advantage of QTS's diverse functions, such as file management, editing, and multimedia applications, for NAS-connected cloud storage. Furthermore, users can easily use a remote service to mount remote storage or cloud storage with HybridMount and access data centrally with File Station.
  • VJBOD Cloud – Block cloud storage gateway
VJBOD Cloud enables cloud object storage (including Amazon S3, Google Cloud, and Azure) to be mapped to QNAP NAS as block cloud LUNs and cloud volumes, offering a secure and scalable method for backing up local application data. Connecting cloud storage to the VJBOD Cloud cache module will make it possible to use LAN-level speed for data in the cloud. Data stored in the cloud will be synchronized with the NAS storage to ensure service continuity in the event of a cloud outage.
  • HBS 3 features QuDedup technology to optimize backup time and storage
QuDedup technology eliminates redundant data at the source to reduce backup size, saving storage, bandwidth and backup time. Users can install QuDedup Extract Tool on their computer and easily restore deduplicated files to normal state. HBS also supports TCP BBR for congestion control, which can significantly increase extranet data transfer speeds when backing up data to the cloud.
  • QNAP NAS as a solution for Fiber Channel SAN
QNAP NAS devices with compatible Fiber Channel adapters installed can easily be added to a SAN environment to provide high-performance data storage and backup for today's data-intensive applications. At the same time, it allows users to enjoy many advantages of QNAP NAS, including snapshot protection, automatically tiered storage, SSD cache acceleration, etc.
  • WhatMagie – New AI albums
QuMagie, the next-generation Photo Station, features an advanced user interface, integrated timeline scrolling, integrated AI-based photo organization, customizable folder coverage, and a powerful search engine, making QuMagie the ultimate photo management and sharing solution.
  • Multimedia Console unifies the management of multimedia applications
Multimedia Console unifies all QTS multimedia applications into one application and thus enables simple and centralized management of multimedia applications. For each multimedia application, users can select source files and set permissions.
  • Flexible SSD RAID Qtier management
Users can flexibly remove SSDs from the SSD RAID group to change or add SSDs, or change the SSD RAID type or SSD type (SATA, M.2, QM2) whenever needed to improve the efficiency of automatic storage tiering.
  • Self-encrypting disks (SEDs) ensure data protection
SEDs (e.g. Samsung 860 and 970 EVO SSDs) offer built-in encryption features that eliminate the need for additional software or system resources when encrypting data.
