Press Release: QNAP® Systems, Inc., a major innovator in computing, networking and storage solutions, today introduced the first desktop NAS of the QuTS hero series – model TS-hx86. Available in a version with 6 positions TS-h686 and 8 positions TS-h886 the TS-hx86 series offers a reliable yet cost-effective NAS solution for small and medium-sized businesses. With Intel® Xeon® D-1600 series processors, 2,5GbE connectivity, M.2 NVMe Gen 3 x4 SSD slots, PCIe expandability and support for up to 128GB DDR4 ECC memory at the server level, the TS-hx86 series also uses a reliable operating system A ZFS-based QuTS hero that offers business-critical features including data integrity, embedded data deduplication, compression, snapshots, real-time SnapSync, and much more.

“Our rackmount NAS QuTS hero editions have become very popular, and we are now introducing desktop models that are suitable for small organizations with limited local server space,” said David Tsao, product manager at QNAP, adding: “The TS- The hx86 is a perfect fit for these organizations, helping workgroup file sharing with ZFS, handling big data storage challenges, and delivering exceptional IO performance and seamless collaboration across teams.”

The TS-hx86 NAS model is equipped with two slots for 2,5″ SSD disks and two M.2 NVMe Gen 3 x4 slots. It allows configuration with SSD cache in order to increase the performance of I/O operations per second and reduce latency, which is especially beneficial for databases and virtualization applications. Four 2,5GbE RJ45 ports support Port Trunking and failover and work with managed and unmanaged QNAP 10GbE/2.5GbE switches, helping organizations implement high-speed, secure, and scalable network environments without breaking the bank. Dual PCIe slots are included to expand key NAS functions such as adding 5GbE/10GbE/25GbE/40GbE network cards; of QM2 cards for connecting M.2 SSDs or 10GbE (10GBASE-T); QXP expansion cards to connect expansion units of multi SATA 6 Gb/s basic graphics cards to add HDMI output, increase video transcoding/streaming performance and provide GPU performance to virtual machines.

With the ZFS-enabled QuTS hero system, the TS-hx86 series brings data integrity, self-healing, and supports more triple-parity and triple-mirroring RAID configurations to enhance data protection. Powerful embedded data deduplication, compression, and decompression significantly reduce total storage costs—especially useful for increasing SSD storage efficiency when generating highly repetitive data or large numbers of small files, while improving random write performance and SSD lifetime. QuTS hero supports unlimited images and versions for better data protection. Advanced block-by-block real-time SnapSync ensures that primary and secondary NAS have identical data, ensuring maximum support for continuous business operations.

QuTS hero includes an Application Center and offers a variety of applications with on-demand installation to expand the potential of NAS usage. Staged applications allow you to host virtual machines and containers, simplify local/remote/cloud backup, implement Google G Suite™ and Microsoft 365® backup solutions, set cloud storage gateway to deploy hybrid cloud applications, simplify file synchronization across devices and teams, and much more.
