Miroslav Buček was one of the first happy owners of a TomTom Car Kit (an iPhone holder with an external GPS chip) in the Czech Republic. But he didn't just keep his impressions of this holder to himself and describes the pros and cons in his video review. If you are thinking about the TomTom Car Kit holder, I recommend watching the video.
Miroslav Buček has already looked at the comparison of TomTom and Navigon navigation. If you missed this video, take a look at the article "Video TomTom vs Navigon - iPhone navigation comparison". And if you are very interested in iPhone navigation, you can also watch my video "iPhone navigation in practice - iGo vs Navigon".

It's nice that there is at least some video, but even if the author doesn't like attaching it to the glass, he could have shown how it works on the windshield, because I have a feeling that in some cars with a longer front window, the holder will be terribly far from the steering wheel. A clip that sticks between plastics probably won't work for everyone.

So I bought it before Christmas and I am very satisfied with it. On the other hand, the suction cup attachment to the glass suits me very well, I always have it on my left hand near the A-pillar where I also have the cable stretched under the plastic, so I just suck it up and connect the cable. As for the joint, on the contrary, I am more comfortable when it is navigated horizontally, so I welcomed it. Otherwise, I often ride the D1 and the holder seems stiff enough to me, it doesn't knock at all, as described by Mr. Buček... I use it with Navigon and I have to say that I absolutely do not regret the money invested for the holder and the maps...
A “review” with zero added value …. not to spoil, the only useful information was at the end and that the kit works systemically and not programmatically. The rest is completely subjective information, which may be a minus for the author but a plus for others. 1/3 of the video is like from one of Kutil Tim's works. without criticism there is no improvement.
thanks for the opinion, by the way I don't know an objective review, yes, mine is strongly subjective

My reservations about the holder (in addition to those already mentioned):
1. The mechanism for attaching the phone to the holder is neat, but I am missing at least some short "rails". Before I got used to it, I had to turn on the light to put the phone in the holder in the dark.
2. the power supply of the holder is quite inexplicably on the part that rotates. So on the one hand, you have to have a longer cable (if you're powering it from a cigarette lighter - that cable is too long, and on the other hand, in a horizontal position, the cable pulls the phone back into a vertical position.
3. Likewise, the line out output is on the moving part
4. line out does not work if the holder is not powered
@Frankie The holder is definitely not rigid. At least mine. And that right from the first moments.
So I can boast of high stiffness, maybe too much, but it suits me...

The effort is appreciated, but the whole thing seems to me to be completely unnecessary... Almost everything that was said there (compared to the previous TT/Navigon review rather amateurishly processed!) are facts that were known long before the real launch on the market (suction cup, power supply, filming...)!!!
I also have the TT Car Kit itself, the only disappointment for me is the BT HF function (not much sensitivity of the microphone, reproduction, absence of a "mute" function for the car radio), otherwise satisfaction.
Only about the suction cup, its entire mechanism can be disassembled and removed easily and without damage, then nothing prevents other allocation/screwing.

I'm testing
I liked the review, like our Brno style... ;)
I think that there is no need to resolve the meaning of the words ring vs wheel or whether Mirek was among the first. I personally have a car kit already from the pre-Christmas period, but let's just say that he is one of the first guys who took it upon himself to film something about it. The effort is appreciated, but as has already been said - there is no improvement without criticism. But the truth is that the possibility of mounting it on the dashboard would certainly be useful, even if their mechanism works quite well. It took me a while before I came up with an optimal solution, for which I used a piece of an old Nokia holder. It's a shame that the iPhone doesn't fit in the case, that wasn't a problem with Brodit (I had a version with a flexible connector where the dimensions could be adjusted). I was mostly satisfied with Brodit, but once when plugging in the iPhone, a bitten apple appeared instead of charging, after a few hours the iPhone became smart, but could not be charged anymore. So I lost faith and preferred to buy original accessories and hoped that the phone complaint would be successful, luckily it was exchanged for a new one. And the technically proficient person who invented the connectors for the moving parts, I'd rather not even comment on that. Otherwise overall satisfaction.
For the author of the review, I would like a tip for solving his problem with the attachment to the ProClip. I myself am a fan of the Brodit solution and am considering this CarKit from Tom-Tom, but I also don't like the Brodit iPhone holder. presented an elegant solution to the Tom-Tom CarKit:

Personally, I am looking for any solution that will work for me after glass with heating. Do you think the signal will improve? Even without this bracket, I get about 70% of the signal.

I would like to know if it also works with iPods, as was promised, then vetoed and then promised again (and of course if it is possible to upload some of the navigation applications to those iPods as well)
There is a different version for iPods http://www.tomtom.com/products/product.php?ID=1… without hands free…
xmoon > if you have such a signal with an iPhone, then with the Car Kit the signal is a class better (SIRF III chip)

So I've had the TT CarKit for about 10 days, I agree with the criticism of the connection on the moving parts. The stiffness of the connection is sufficient in the joint, to the extent that I would say it is quite difficult, but the stiffness in the horizontal/vertical axis is catastrophic. I myself prefer the position across and when I go over a bump, and since I don't have a hard car, the phone "falls" vertically. After ten days, for the first time, a grunt was heard in the loudspeaker. Ever since I had a different phone, I have a Parot Bluetooth Handsfree set that runs through the car's speakers, and sometimes I have to manually switch to handsfree mode on the phone.
Don't know how to set it up?
