Apple last week on Wednesday introduced new iPhones for the coming year and a few hours before they will be available to the first lucky owners, the first reviews have appeared on the web. At the time of writing the article, there are already quite a few of them, so we can get an idea of what to expect from the new flagships, what are the biggest news and for whom it makes sense to consider the new iPhones.

This year's presentation of new products was more in the spirit of gradual innovations, instead of complete new products. Not much has changed on the design side. Yes, a larger size and a gold variant have been added, but that's all from the visual side. Most of the changes took place inside, but even here there was no very drastic evolution.

Overall, most reviewers agreed that the progress achieved compared to last year's model is not big enough to make the purchase of the new product worthwhile for iPhone X owners. The changes are more subtle and if you have an iPhone from last season, the purchase may not be so necessary. However, most of the "esque" models faced similar problems. Owners of the previous model series usually didn't change, while owners of older iPhones had more reasons to upgrade. The same is happening again this year.

Probably the biggest change has been the camera, which should be significantly improved compared to last year. Although the number of megapixels (13 MPx) has not changed, the iPhone XS has diametrically different sensors, which are much larger with larger pixels, so they work better in conditions with poorer lighting (the sensor connected to the telephoto lens has grown by 32%). Another change was the Face ID interface, which now works a little faster than its predecessor. However, he retained some traditional quirks.

In the case of performance, there was no such jump, although some could argue that there is not much reason for it. Last year's A11 Bionic chip completely outclassed its competition, and this year's iteration, named A12, improves it by roughly 15% in terms of performance. So it's a nice bonus, but by no means essential. Competing flagships have a lot to do to match the performance of last year's iPhones, so there was no extra compelling reason to chase for more power. The advantage is the 7nm production process of the new chips, which makes them more energy efficient.

This is especially reflected in the battery life, which is better than last year. In the case of the standard iPhone X, the battery life is slightly better than the iPhone X (Apple says about 30 minutes, reviewers agree on slightly longer battery life). In the case of the larger XS model, the battery life is noticeably better (the XS Max was able to last a full day under heavy load). So the battery capacity is sufficient.

Most reviewers agree that the new iPhone XS are great phones, but they're "just" more polished versions of last year's models. Rock fans and all those who need to have the latest are sure to please. In one breath, however, they remind that in a month Apple will start selling a third new product in the form of the iPhone XR, which is aimed at a less demanding clientele. It is this iPhone that can be tailor-made for many users, as it could represent the ideal model in terms of specifications and price. It will be seven thousand lower than in the case of the iPhone XS. So everyone has to consider whether the extra seven thousand crowns (or more, depending on the configuration) is worth what they get in addition to the more expensive XS.
