The iPad Air went on sale in the Czech Republic, and Jablíčkář brings you the first impressions he got after the first hours with the new apple tablet...
Availability
iPad Air went on sale today in the Czech Apple Online Store with very pleasant availability for all models. Apple promises to package and ship all models within 24 hours (except for the highest models with mobile internet). If you don't want to wait for delivery from the online store, you can visit one of the Apple Premium Reseller. According to our information, it is available in all but some models may not be available. Unfortunately, you cannot buy new Smart Covers from certified sellers. Their availability is limited even in the online store. However, you don't have to worry about ordering the iPad together with the case. Apple ships items as they are available. That means it will ship the iPad, and then ship the case when it's available.
Smaller, lighter
Among the main attractions of the iPad Air is certainly its reduced weight to less than half a kilogram. You'll know it at first touch. Just pick up an iPad Air and you'll never want another one. Thinner edges (by 24 percent) also help to make a better impression. This will have a very positive effect, especially when held in one hand. On the iPad, typing is much better in landscape mode. This improvement will be especially welcomed by those who use iPads instead of MacBooks. Typing is faster, more comfortable, and your wrist doesn't die under the weight of a heavy iPad. And that is certainly why the new iPad was nicknamed Air. It is very similar to the Macbook Air product line.
Much faster
As we already are informed, iPad Air excels in benchmarks. But the average user is not very interested in that. Much more important is how it behaves during normal system actions, and especially how it gets along with iOS 7. If you have an iPad mini or iPad 2, you're probably not all that excited about iOS 7. The iPad Air is completely different. All actions in iOS 7 are prompt, they don't take long, and you feel that this system simply belongs on the iPad. Just as with the iPhone 5S, it can be seen that Apple paid particular attention to the functionality and fluidity of iOS 7 on the latest devices. Graphics performance has also improved. Infinity Blade III looks beautiful on the iPad Air's retina display. Again, everything is fast, smooth and there is no unnecessary waiting.
A competitor to the iPad Mini
Along with the Air, the iPad mini with Retina display was also introduced. And what is the difference between the iPad Air and its smaller brother? Apart from the display size, none. So it's up to you which display size you prefer. However, the new iPad Air has slightly challenged the advantages of the iPad Mini. The fact that the iPad Air is very thin, light and has the same design as its smaller variant makes it very difficult for you to choose. So it practically only depends on whether you prefer a larger display or not.
First impressions of the iPad Air are therefore entirely positive. Next week, you can expect a detailed review on Jablíčkára with real-world experience...
Can you really test the product properly in a week? There should be at least 3 weeks for the review…
Even reputable foreign servers do not test for more than a week.
Well... actually, probably yes, and are you planning any longer-term impressions afterwards? (maybe after a month of use)
Is it really necessary? Is this still an iPad that's "only" faster, lighter, and slimmer? Of course, I am not opposed to long-term impressions, but I think the result is already clear.
So I would hate to find out a week after I bought something like that that it overheats, or has a bad battery, or the display is not backlit (automatically set).
You can write a good review in 3 days, but after 2-3 weeks a person will come across what really bothers him.
As far as possible, yes. In addition, it is facilitated by the fact that it is not a brand new product, so we can focus on specific changes. We do not rule out possible further experience over a longer time horizon.
What do you want to test on nom for three weeks? Even so, the review ends with the fact that it is thinner, lighter, narrower, more powerful, has a better camera and photo, and lasts longer on the battery. The disadvantage will be the price compared to cheap Android tablets and the need for a new smart cover for those who have an old smart cover with an older large iPad. iOS 7 has been known for several months, and everyone has been able to try out the new iLife and iWorks as well. Another disadvantage will be the absence of TouchID. In two days of use, you can get to know the iPad Air completely.
hmm, I'd rather be interested in how the iPad Air is "perceived" by current users of the iPad mini - which I bought precisely because it was traditionally too heavy. the decision will be even more difficult this time...
iPAir did not convince me much as an iPad4/iPad mini user. It's still a big device, or at least it seems that way, which surprised me quite a bit. But those who will be the first to buy new tablets will be delighted.
I have an iPad mini and after trying the Air I would still stick with the mini. The difference between them is not that big, but I still find the mini more comfortable than the Air. If I were buying my first tablet, it would be a difficult decision, but I'm used to it and I don't mind the difference in size. I usually write in portrait, and it's still not the same on Air. Personally, I'll wait until there's a retina mini somewhere, but I'm happy with the current iPad. We'll see how big the difference will be when the mini and mini with retina are next to each other.
I would add that, in addition to the size of the display (and the related fineness of the display, which at the same resolution is higher on the mini) between the large and small iPad, there is mainly a difference in weight, which may also be a criterion for someone (if they always drag it around with them somewhere) .
If I were to carry it in my hand, yes, but if I carry it in a backpack, I don't know if I have 100 grams more or less ;-).
I have an ipad 4 and the new ipad mini seems like a great choice. If I were to buy an iPad now, I would choose the iPad mini with retina.
Why? I love the iPad mini, especially the price ;-).
I have a mini and today I tried to touch the air, a bit broken, if it will be my next iPad. Yes, they are easy. But with some wrapping, a big pancake is fine. So it's definitely for me, who travels a lot with an iPad and uses it as a reader on a stand in Mhd. I'll wait for the mini with retina. Btw. iOS7 on my minimum is perfectly fine.
I think the iPad mini will be more popular than the iPad Air. A lot of people were waiting for a retina display, which they got, in addition, compared to the older model, there was a much more significant jump in performance than is the case with the large iPad. Now both new models are equally powerful, so the potential dilemma of what to compromise on is no longer there. Those who like to read a lot of electronic texts on the go will certainly appreciate the smaller and lighter device of the two. Understandably, not everyone sees it that way, but many people prefer to stick to smaller and even single-purpose readers. The iPad Air is great, but the iPad mini will be more successful.
I went to see the Air and I have to admit that it is really amazing. There was still an old Mini next to it, but when I picked up the Air, it was so enticing that I didn't even feel like I should consider the Mini. On the other hand, when I had the Mini in my hand, it was clear to me that it would suit me and that the size would not feel inadequate. And since there will be no compromise in performance, I will be happy with the Mini. The Air is great, no question about it, but I'll be fine with the Mini size.
I have historically had both a mini and a large iPad. Small for travel, big for bed... A bit extravagant, but "I'm going to have fun". Surely those who can't decide will understand...
The difference is also in GPS. The Mini only has A-GPS on the 3G model, otherwise it has no GPS.
No difference, both the Mini and the Air have the same - see specs on Apple's website.
You're right, I'm sorry. Interestingly, as I was looking at this right after they introduced it, I could have sworn the Air had regular GPS and the wi-fi version, while the mini had nothing.
I have 2 iPad minis, one with LTE and the other only WiFi and now I bought an iPad air WiFi, to sum it up, the design has always been great with Apple and now on the Air it is exactly that, I will see what the iPad mini with retina will offer. It's just that it's good to have more iPads and tablets for charging and mobility, a mini is better, but a large one is better for home use.
Otherwise, I'm looking forward to the larger iPhone 6, which I think it will offer, i.e. a 5-inch retina display.
I gave up! Hysteria!!! Even in the evening there are outrageous lines in front of the Apple store in Toronto, people want to see and buy the new iPad Air! Apple is a God in North America! “This is a consumer society where technology is admired more than the good in man” – I sighed and told myself that I would stop by again tomorrow. Until November 21st, when the new ipadmini arrives, I have to solve the dilemma of life, which iPad should I buy, when the previous ipad mini is so wonderful for me? How long am I actually becoming?
Eh?
Normally, I would advise you to wash with natural lukewarm water 3 times a day, but now I don't know.
hahahahahaha
You can naturally wash yourself, maybe it will help you to perceive the opinions of other people, without pointing fingers. But you have to grow up for that!
I didn't notice any opinion in your post.
I wonder how long it will take to charge. So also the detail of how big the battery is and how fast the charger is (how many amps do you put into it). Thanks
2.1 A and the battery has 8800 instead of 11400 ;-) it's cool :-) I already have it at home :-) and it charged to max in about 3-4 hours :-) I didn't look exactly how long :-) but so far from the mini the Air version is all positives :-) iOS is great, the display is amazing, the black with gray back is amazing, it lasts a long time and the performance is good too :-) so I like it more than the mini :-)
That sounds good :-). Thanks for the info.
Yes, I'm sorry :-) 2.4A and 12Watt :) I somehow got it wrong :-) important that the battery lasts a really long time :-) it goes from Sunday morning until the evening and today from morning and I have 30 percent ... maximum satisfaction: -)
A little disadvantage that I found out is that there is a little problem in denting the display. If we remember older laptops with a thinner display cover, and if we press from the other side, it will turn rainbow colors on the display... And the ipad air will do the same if you press your thumb a little more on the display... I found this out when I was lying on my back in bed and holding the ipad like mini I only touched the display with one hand and my thumb :-D it will be more like the lever and the weight that is created on the place where my thumb is :-) but otherwise I am full of superlatives :-)
Interesting observation :-).
Well, if you hold it like a person :-D then it will be fine :-) don't expect any bending from the aluminum back :-) only the glass is probably precisely pressed on the display and try to dent it :-) but otherwise the display didn't suffer any scratches : -)
Sure, then I don't take it as a disadvantage. On the other hand, I will look at it as if I have an idea.
Since the iPad 2, I've been waiting for a new iPad that makes sense to replace, and now with iOS7, which eats more RAM, I'll probably have to do it (even if I didn't want to).
And the iPad Air seems like the right way to go. They solved the weight, improved the performance, it charges faster, it has a better display, etc.
By the way, do I only have 1GB of RAM? I would have expected it to have 2 GB.
I'll put it like this :-) if you have an ios device with 512mb ram then there is a bit of a problem :-) for example the ipad mini has this problem, but for a less demanding person like my girlfriend who plays games, watches the internet, youtube, movies on it etc., so it's not a problem :-) even the more complex games are a breeze :-) but with 1Gb of ram you don't need to worry about the system :-) I don't worry at all about the iPhone 5 and the same with the iPad Air: -) and to be honest, I didn't even care about it in the slightest :-) it just ran like that :-) it's more about how many applications you have asleep in the ram memory, it's not about anything else... anyway in like 10 minutes with the tablet is already full of RAM :-) it works on the same basis as a Mac ... what's the point of having an empty memory when it eats up energy anyway so we'll use it :-)
Charging wasn't that fast... it's still a big tablet and you can count on charging for over 3 hours :-) I'll do a review on it today :-) so if I discharge it today and charge it, I'll press the stopwatch :-)
Great, I would like to read the review :-). Otherwise, the iPad 2 also takes about 3 hours to charge, which is not so bad. The iPad 3 should have been charged in more than 8 hours, and that's simply more than I sleep, so unsatisfactory.
RAM is just for games. XCOM falls and it was to be expected. On the other hand, with iOS7, games that were completely stable on iOS6 crash, so I really have a RAM system on the iPad 2. And that's exactly why, because it's not enough. I also looked at the logs and it is completely clear ;-).
That is I agree with you, I'm a user and everything should work, so then the person doesn't solve it. On the other hand, when I have the problem, I worry about it and I don't want to solve it. The only solution is to upgrade, or to suffer occasional crashes, or not to play the newer demanding or stupidly optimized games.
Another turn-based strategy lover :-D I just bought it at a discount :-D Xcom beats me to the top on Air :-D even though I haven't steamed it for more than 30 minutes :-) today I'm going to test the full power :-D but some mostly the older ones have problems too... I think it's the 64-bit chip and the games not being updated :-)
Yeah, I've always liked pull-ups, but I just love UFO ;-). Otherwise, it was expected that there would be a problem with the change. In any case, I assume that the x64 architecture will not back down, so it's definitely a better buy than the iPad 4 ;-).
I reckon that it will definitely not back down, but it will be more of a challenge for the developers to remake it all :-) much bigger than it was during the classic conversion to iOS 7 :-) anyway, I will send you the review by email tomorrow :-) or when it is :-) and the end next week I want to do a little video preview with a friend :-)
So after 30 minutes of steaming real racing and 30 minutes of browsing the Internet and 7 hours in standby mode, it's still 100 percent :-DDD it's enough for you that I'll probably have to grease the ipad air all night to drain it at all :-D
so it charges to 80 percent in 3 hours :-) it charges to 100 percent in 4:23 :-) and then the watch should still be on the charger to complete the charging process :-)
5 hours is quite enough. On the other hand, if it lasts 3-4 days on a charge like my old iPad (I work on it for about 2 hours a day), then it's tolerable ;-).
It was totally blown out :-) and if you consider that it has a 5x bigger battery than an iPhone and it takes practically 4:30 to charge :-) then it's not so bad :-) the watch on the charger is just a commuter :-) if you you go to bed in the evening and put it on the charger and it will be charged by the morning :-) Anyway, from what I read in the Verge review, it says that it can last longer on battery than the iPad 2 and iPad 3 :-D I don't know :-) I think it will last the same long as ipad mini :-D what I used it :-D
By the way, the drops due to RAM are intentional, because Apple doesn't want to sell older devices with smaller margins ;-).
So 2.4A is written on my charger
Have you measured how long it takes to charge?
Hello guys, I have a question for iPad Air owners. Do you also hear a "plastic" sound when you tap the display harder (mainly with your fingernail)? :) I understand that as part of the iPad's weight reduction and thinning, it must show up somewhere... I'm just wondering if it's a feature :) After all, it didn't do this with the previous iPad. Thanks for the info
Yeah, me too…. It's apparently a feature… Very strange feeling compared to previous models, but apparently due to the thickness….
