If you're currently choosing an Apple Watch, you've probably pondered the question of which model to choose. Apple currently sells three variants, namely the latest Series 7, last year's SE model and the "old" Series 3. All three generations, of course, are aimed at different target groups, which can make it slightly confusing as to which one is actually intended for decide. In this article, we will quickly shed some light on this topic and advise which Apple Watch is (possibly) the best for whom.

Apple Watch Series 7

Let's start with the best. This is, of course, the Apple Watch Series 7, the pre-sale of which, among other things, only started today. This is the best you can get from Apple right now. This model offers the largest display to date, which makes all notifications and texts much more legible, which the Cupertino giant achieved by reducing the edges (compared to previous generations). The display is what Apple is most proud of with the Series 7. Of course, there is also the always-on option for constantly displaying the time.

At the same time, it should be the most durable Apple Watch ever, which also offers IP6X dust resistance and WR50 water resistance for swimming. The Apple Watch is also a great helper for health care in general. In particular, they can deal with heart rate monitoring, they can draw attention to a fast/slow or irregular rhythm, measure the oxygen saturation in the blood, offer an ECG, can detect a fall and, if necessary, also call for help themselves, thus saving several human lives by the way. Apple Watch Series 7 is also a great partner for monitoring your physical activities. They can analyze, for example, exercises or performance in various sports and thus motivate you to further activities.

Apple Watch: Display comparison

In the end, the presence of sleep monitoring and fast charging functions can please you, when using a USB-C cable you can charge the latest Apple Watch from 0% to 80% in just 45 minutes. In addition, if you are in a hurry, in 8 minutes you will get enough "juice" for 8 hours of sleep monitoring. In any case, there are many more options. There are a number of different applications available for the Apple Watch, which can help with weight loss, productivity, boredom, etc., and the watch can also be used to pay via Apple Pay.

Apple Watch Series 7 primarily targets users who expect only the best from a smart watch. This model is of course loaded with the latest technologies, thanks to which they can cover practically all possible needs. In addition, all content is perfectly readable thanks to the use of an advanced display. The Series 7 is available in a 41mm and 45mm case version.

Apple WatchSE

However, not everyone needs the very best watch and would rather save money instead. A great watch in terms of price/performance is the Apple Watch SE, which brings the best of the product line at an affordable price. This piece was specifically introduced last year alongside the Apple Watch Series 6 and is still a relatively recent model. Despite this, however, they also have weak points, where they simply do not catch on to the mentioned Series 7 and 6 models. Namely, this is the absence of a sensor for measuring the ECG, an always-on display. Additionally, the screen itself is slightly smaller compared to the latest addition to the Apple Watch family, due to the larger bezels. The watch is also sold in 40 and 44mm case sizes.

In any case, all the other functions that we mentioned in the Apple Watch Series 7 are not lacking in this model. That is exactly why it is a great choice at a relatively affordable price, which can easily handle, for example, monitoring your physical activities, sleep and a number of third-party applications. However, if you do not need an ECG and an always-on display and would like to save a few thousand, then the Apple Watch SE is the best possible choice for you.

Apple Watch Series 3

Finally, we have the Apple Watch Series 3 from 2017, which Apple is still officially selling for some reason. This is a so-called entry model to the world of Apple watches, but it is aimed at the least demanding users. Compared to the SE and Series 7 models, these "watches" are far behind. Already at first glance, their significantly smaller display is noticeable, which is caused by significantly larger frames around the display. Despite this, they can handle monitoring activities, recording training sessions, receiving notifications and calls, measuring heart rate or paying via Apple Pay.

But the biggest limitation comes in the case of storage. While the Apple Watch Series 7 and SE offer 32 GB, the Series 3 is only 8 GB. This made it virtually impossible to update this model to a newer version of watchOS at all. Even the system itself warned the user in such a case to first unpair the watch and reset it. In any case, this problem was solved by the latest watchOS 8. But the question arises as to how it will be in the future and whether the upcoming systems will be supported at all. For this reason, the Apple Watch Series 3 is probably only really suitable for the least demanding, for whom only displaying the time and reading notifications is key. We covered this topic in more detail in the article attached below.
