According to the latest reports from Asymco, the average cost of running iTunes is $75 million per month. This is more than double from 2009, when the average monthly cost was approximately $30 million per month.

The rise in costs can be attributed to the implementation of new features as well as 18 million app downloads per day. I'll just remind you of the information that was given at the September keynote. About 200 apps are downloaded from iTunes per second!

At this point, the total annual operating costs are somewhere around $900 million, and as iTunes and its content continue to grow, the $1 billion mark is sure to be crossed soon.

These costs cover, for example, the ability to pay from the 160 million credit cards registered to user accounts and the management of all downloadable content that users download to 120 million iOS devices.

To date, iTunes has sold more than 450 million TV shows, 100 million movies, countless songs and 35 million books. Collectively, people have downloaded 6,5 billion apps. That's one app for every person on the planet.

We can only hope that, despite the high costs, Apple will one day expand the full-fledged iTunes Store to us as well, and we will have the opportunity to download songs, movies and series in the Czech Republic.
