When Steve Jobs introduced the very first iPad eleven years ago in San Francisco, people fell in love with it almost immediately. Such a device brought the so-called fresh wind to the market and filled the gap between the iPhone and the Mac. The tablet is in many ways a significantly better choice than the two mentioned products, which Apple was fully aware of and worked on a reliable solution for years. Anyway, the iPad itself has come a long way before it was even introduced to the world.

The introduction of the first iPad in 2010

Currently, new images of the prototype of the first ever iPad have been circulating on the internet, on which we can notice one unusual thing at first glance. The user's Twitter account took care of sharing them Giulio Zompetti, who is known for collecting rare apple pieces and his refined collection. In the photos, we can notice that the prototype was equipped with two 30-pin ports instead of one. While one is classically located on the underside, the other was on the left side. From this, it is clear that Apple originally intended a system for dual docking of the iPad, and it was even possible to charge the device simultaneously from both ports.

According to information from collector Zompetti, the second port was removed during the design review phase. The Cupertino company develops its products in three phases – first, engineering validation tests are carried out, then design and execution checks follow, and finally production is verified. This is not even the first mention of such a device. Already in 2012, a prototype of the first iPad, which was also equipped with two identical ports, was auctioned on eBay. Leaks from the past few years suggest that the idea of two ports was almost swept off the table by Steve Jobs at the last minute.
