Vratislav Holub When Apple introduced the so-called Self Service Repair or home repair program for Apple products at the end of 2021, it was able to pleasantly surprise the vast majority of fans. The Cupertino giant has promised that practically everyone will be able to repair their device. It will start selling original spare parts and rent tools, which will be available together with detailed instructions. As he promised, so it happened. The program started at the end of May 2022 in Apple's homeland, i.e. in the United States of America. On this occasion, the giant mentioned that the service will expand to other countries this year.

Apple today announced the expansion of the program to Europe via a press release in its Newsroom. In particular, 8 other countries received it, including France, Belgium, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Great Britain, and possibly also our neighbors Germany and Poland. But when will we see it here in the Czech Republic?
Self Service Repair in the Czech Republic
At first glance, this is great news. We have finally seen the expansion of this long-awaited service, which has finally arrived in Europe. For domestic apple growers, however, it is much more important to know whether and when Self Service Repair will arrive in the Czech Republic, or even in Slovakia. Unfortunately, Apple does not mention this in any way, so we can only assume. However, when the service is already available in our Polish neighbors, it can be assumed that we won't have to wait that long again. On the other hand, it is necessary to take into account that Apple is not the fastest in the direction of introducing new products to other countries, and the arrival of the program in Poland is therefore no guarantee at all. For example, Apple News+ or Apple Fitness+ are still missing in Poland, while in Germany at least the second service (Fitness+) is available.
Self Service Repair launched in the US
When we think about it, in the Czech Republic we lack a number of services and options that Apple offers elsewhere. We still don't have the aforementioned News+, Fitness+ functions, we can't send money quickly via Apple Pay Cash, Czech Siri is missing, and so on. We waited until the beginning of 2014 for the arrival of Apple Pay in 2019. But there is still hope that things will not be so dark again in the case of Self Service Repair. Apple growers are a bit more optimistic about this and expect that we will soon see it in our region as well. Unfortunately, there is no way to estimate in advance how long we will actually have to wait and when we will actually see it.
Thanks to the Self Service Repair program, Apple users can repair their Apple products themselves. The iPhone 12 (Pro) and iPhone 13 (Pro) phones are currently part of the program, while Apple computers with Apple Silicon M1 chips should soon be included. As we have already indicated above, Apple owners can also rent important tools from Apple in addition to spare original parts. As part of this service, care is also taken to recycle defective or old components. If users return them to Apple, they get cashback in the form of credits.
