Information about how the global computer market performed during the first quarter of this year has been published on the website. The market as such again registered a rather noticeable drop, almost all computer sellers did not do well. Apple also recorded a decline, although, paradoxically, it managed to increase its market share.
Worldwide sales of personal computers decreased by 4,6% year-on-year, which in terms of individual computers means a decrease of approximately three million devices sold. Of the big players on the market, only Lenovo significantly improved, which in 1Q 2019 managed to sell almost a million more devices than the year before. HP is also slightly in the plus values. Others from the TOP 6 registered a decline, including Apple.
Apple managed to sell less than four million Macs in the first three months of this year. Year-on-year, there was thus a decrease of 2,5%. Even so, Apple's global market share increased by 0,2% due to a larger decline in other market players. Apple thus still ranks fourth in the list of the largest manufacturers, or vendors, computers.
From a global perspective, if we move to the US territory, which is the most important market for Apple, Mac sales also fell here, by 3,5%. However, compared to the other five, Apple is the best after Microsoft. Here, too, there was a decline in sales, but a small increase in market share.
Weakening Mac sales are expected, mainly due to two main issues. First of all, it is the price, which continues to rise for new Macs, and Apple computers are thus becoming unaffordable for more and more potential customers. The second problem is the unpleasant situation regarding the quality of processing, especially in the area of keyboards and now also displays. MacBooks in particular have been struggling with major issues for the last three years that have deterred many potential customers from buying them. In the case of MacBooks, it is also a problem connected with the design of the product as such, so an improvement will only occur if there is a more fundamental change to the entire device.
Are Apple's pricing policy and lack of quality reasons for you to consider buying a Mac?
Definitely. And not only would I consider - I know I wouldn't buy. I have an almost 5-year-old MacBook Pro, and if it goes away, I won't buy Apple again. The current one is great, well equipped, still like new, but the current offer = quality, I don't believe. I see the same with iPad Pros.
I have the same experience and I'm glad that my MacbookPro 2014 works as it should. When I see the new ones, thank you NO.
In two years, I complained twice about the keyboard for mac and once about the mouse... But it is true that the authorized repair shop responded quickly by replacing it with new parts,,,
I was considering buying a Macbook Air 2018, but going into a device for 36 with the feeling that I have a big chance that my keyboard will start to crack is not exactly ideal. I had a Macbook Pro 2015 and at the moment the whole keyboard and touchpad are not working. The machine is great, sufficient, the ecosystem is fantastic, but this is quite a big risk.
I wouldn't buy the €3000 MacBook Pro myself. First of all, I don't have such a knapsack to spare, and secondly, I wouldn't give them for such a shunt. I got it from my employer, for whom it is a drop in the bucket, but the keyboard is bad (service and it crashes again), the sound rattles, the screen is damaged (service), I haven't gotten used to the distracting touchbar even after 5 months, the only thing decent, is performance.
I have a retired MBP early 2011, but I'd rather have this retiree than invest in one of the current models. The prices are high above the standard, but the quality, given the price, is far below average.
Thanks, but not this!
I don't quite understand the posts here. I used a MacBook Pro Retina Mid 2012 until February of this year. Unfortunately, my daughter spilled juice on it and it didn't work anymore. The other day I went to buy a new model without any preconceptions and I am satisfied - especially after a full restore from Time Machine when all windows were in the state when I backed them up :-)
Well, what if by chance something doesn't work and a service is required? After the second repetition of the same problem, you are entitled to a refund. Then I would only start solving how to give. The last time I experienced this was a Swiss watch (a Maurice Lacroix watch). Same error 3 times. Now I know that I won't buy anything from them again, but I don't have this experience with Apple. If I do, I'll just look elsewhere.
I have a MacBookAir 11-2014. It's still enough to render one video per month. Good trackpad. Office apple for free and macOS, battery, scale. These are the pluses that keep the old machines up to date. It's a pity that Safari doesn't cooperate with the commercial bank.
I have a 15″ mbp 2016. It cost 2500 euros new with a discount. It didn't even last two months and the ssd disk failed. The warranty repair lasted 26 days and they changed the entire motherboard. Some letters on the keyboard sometimes do not respond, or the same letter is written twice, but it works at the moment. Apple changes it within 4 years of purchase. There is also a replaceable program on the display, because the anti-reflective layer ( Staingate ) peels off. There is no replacement program for the broken cable to the display (repair about 600 euros). So I'm just waiting to see what else goes wrong and I'll be without mbp again for almost a month. And how much will it cost? I no longer recommend Apple products to anyone.
I am currently very seriously considering replacing the Air, the old one is more than 4 years old, and there is already a bit of a problem with the battery life (until recently it was OK) which has gotten worse by leaps and bounds. Otherwise, the machine works like clockwork. I wanted to get it on my way, but the delivery time for the 512GB disk is longer, so I'm still considering whether the smaller one (which I have now) wouldn't be enough for me and it made it.
So I'm thinking and with a probability bordering on certainty I'll buy this year
I agree with the other opinions, I'm about to replace a MacBook Pro Late 2013 and the new MacBook "Pro" (quotes on purpose) doesn't meet the requirements for e.g. connectivity (lugging a USB hub around for e.g. an SD card is a step backwards, thank you really no) but that's just one of the many criticisms of current MacBooks, which are slowly but surely becoming design accessories for cafe hipsters. I'll probably have to go back to the Thinkpad sooner or later :-(
