The analytical company IDC has published the results of a market survey of so-called wearable devices, among which Apple includes, in addition to the Apple Watch, AirPods and some headphones from Beats. According to published information, it looks like Apple is still far ahead of the competition in this regard, and nothing will change in the foreseeable future.

During the first quarter of this year, Apple managed to sell 12,8 million wearable devices worldwide. This means that the company holds 25,8% of the global market in this sector. Compared to last year, this is a loss of one percentage point in market share. However, the market for these devices grew rapidly, and despite this loss, Apple managed to sell almost twice as much year-on-year.

The Chinese giants Xiaomi and Huawei are mainly breathing on Apple's back, which are growing at an even greater pace, although their market share does not pose much of a threat to Apple yet. However, if the trend of their sales continues, Apple will face growing global competition.

Fourth place is still held by Samsung, which is relatively surprising given the products it has available in this segment. The TOP 5 is rounded off by Fitbit, which mainly benefits from the lower price level of their products.

Overall, this market is doing very well, with sales up 50% year-on-year, and there is no indication that anything will change in the coming quarters. Smart watches, wireless headphones and other "wereables" are all the rage right now, and the big players in the market want to feed the hunger for these devices as much as possible. Apple currently has the best position, but it must not rest on its laurels.
