The new iPhones 6 and 6 Plus are equipped with a 20-nanometer A8 chip, which is apparently manufactured by the Taiwanese company TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Company). She found out it's a company chipworks, which subjected the internals of the new iPhones to a detailed analysis.

This is a rather significant finding, as it would mean that Samsung has lost its exclusive position in the production of Apple's chips. While there has been speculation about this change in Apple's supply chain, no one really knows whether Apple will switch from South Korea to Taiwan now or in one of the next generations of its processor.

The iPhone 5S still used a 28-nanometer processor from Samsung, the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus already have a processor manufactured using the 20-nanometer method, and according to TSMC, chip speeds are much faster thanks to this technology. At the same time, such processors are physically smaller and need less power.

However, there is still speculation that Apple has not completely stopped working with Samsung. In the future, it plans to produce a 14-nanometer chip in cooperation with Samsung, and the agreement with TSMC is only part of plans to diversify suppliers in its chain and prevent potential problems.
