iPhone displays have come a few steps forward in recent years. Today's models have displays with OLED panels, a great contrast ratio and luminosity, and in the Pro models we also come across ProMotion technology. Thanks to this option, the iPhone 13 Pro (Max) and iPhone 14 Pro (Max) can adaptively change the refresh rate depending on the rendered content and offer an excellently vivid image as well as good battery life.

In order to save battery, it is recommended to activate the function for automatic brightness adjustment. In such a case, the brightness is then adjusted by itself according to the given situation, primarily according to the lighting in the given space, for which a special sensor is used. In the case of the iPhone 14 (Pro) series, Apple even opted for a so-called dual sensor to ensure even better results. If you have this function active, then it is quite normal that your brightness will vary during the day. Even so, there is also a situation where an immediate decrease in brightness can occur - regardless of whether you have the function turned on or not.

Automatic brightness reduction

As we mentioned above, you may have found yourself in a situation where your iPhone has automatically reduced the brightness in leaps and bounds. But once you opened the control center, you could find that it was actually at the same level all the time, like max. This is a fairly common phenomenon, the aim of which is to lighten the device and take care of the battery itself. This can best be explained with an example. If, for example, you are playing a graphically demanding game, or you are putting a load on the entire iPhone in some other way, then it is quite possible that the brightness will automatically decrease after a certain time. It all has a relatively simple explanation. As soon as the device starts to overheat, it is necessary to solve the given situation somehow. By reducing the brightness, the battery consumption will be reduced, which for a change does not generate as much heat.

In fact, this is a form of the iPhone's security mechanism. The brightness is therefore automatically reduced in case of overheating, which is supposed to optimize the whole situation. In the same way, a limitation of performance may also appear, or as an absolutely ultimate solution, automatic shutdown of the entire device is offered.
