The performance of mobile phones is constantly increasing. Thanks to this, smartphones easily cope with a number of different tasks and in many ways can even replace traditional computers. Today's performance would even allow them to play so-called AAA titles. But we don't have them here yet, and developers and players more or less ignore them and prefer older retro pieces.

But the question is, why are more and more retro games headed for iPhones, while everyone ignores AAA titles. It's quite strange because if we look back in time, we can remember games like Splinter Cell, Prince of Persia and others that were available to us on push-button phones. At the time, practically everyone expected that as soon as we saw higher performance, popular games would also come in full force. Unfortunately, this has not happened so far. Why?

There is no interest in AAA mobile games

It could simply be said that there is simply no interest in AAA titles. Since they are more demanding to develop, something like this must of course be reflected in their price, but the players themselves are not ready for this. Everyone is used to free mobile games, which can at most be supplemented with so-called microtransactions. On the contrary, hardly anyone would buy a phone game for a thousand crowns. In addition, the aforementioned microtransactions work wonderfully (for developers). People can buy, for example, cosmetic items for their character, speed up the progress of the game, improve and overall save time that they would otherwise have to sacrifice in the game. Since these are usually smaller amounts, there is a greater chance that players will buy something like this.

That's why developers don't have the slightest reason to switch to AAA titles that wouldn't be able to make them that much money. The truth is that the mobile gaming market already generates more money than the PC and console gaming market combined. Logically, why change something that works perfectly? After all, for this reason, we can practically forget about AAA games.

Why retro games?

Another question is why more and more retro games are heading to iPhones. These are often very popular older games that can have a nostalgic effect on players. When we then combine this with the mentioned microtransactions and the possible acceleration of the progress, we have a title in the world that can make solid money for the developers. As we mentioned above, AAA titles simply wouldn't be able to do something like that and would probably do more harm than good to their creators. So for now it looks like we'll have to settle for classic mobile games. Would you welcome the arrival of more AAA titles, or are you satisfied with the current state of mobile gaming?
