In the online environment, we can encounter a number of different traps - from malware to various fraudsters. Fortunately, technology has advanced significantly over the past few years, making it even better to defend against these pitfalls. After all, this is precisely why the trend of so-called frauds started. Fraudsters try to lure money out of people in various ways, when they can, for example, play to support Microsoft, send fraudulent e-mails and the like.

However, perhaps the most fraud takes place in the United States. Mostly Indians set up a call center directly in India and then pass themselves off as official Microsoft support to lure (mostly) older and more gullible people out of their savings. These fraudsters then get paid in a rather strange way. After their victims, they want gift vouchers for online platforms such as iTunes, Google Play, Amazon and others. But why are they actually interested in "gift cards" and prefer them to bank transfer or payment via PayPal?

Benefits of gift cards

Gift cards are the best solution for scammers. They work immediately and have a number of advantages that help the aforementioned fraudsters in their "work". Activation codes are virtually untraceable and are not even tied to a specific person, which makes them the best option for these purposes. These are also very popular products worldwide. Logically, they are therefore resold to each other at good prices, and it is therefore not a problem to get rid of them afterwards and simply make money from the whole process.

On the contrary, if the fraudsters were to talk about paying via PayPal or a traditional bank transfer, they would be easily traceable and the local authorities could become interested in their work, which could disrupt their entire operation. For this reason, it is necessary to hide as much as possible. The use of such methods is the alpha and the omega. After all, once you pay something from your account/PayPal, there is still a chance that your money can be returned to you. In the case of gift cards, however, it is the complete opposite.
