The traditional September Apple Keynote is less than a week away. We know with almost certainty that we will see a trio of new iPhones, with a high probability that the Apple Watch will also come from new materials. In addition to hardware, Apple will also launch new services, namely Apple Arcade and Apple TV+. In connection with the upcoming TV+, there is also speculation that Apple could introduce a new generation of Apple TV later this year.

So far this year, all indications are that Apple is more focused on its new streaming service, TV app, and making AirPlay 2 available to third-party manufacturers. In addition, the third-generation Apple TV received an extraordinary update in the form of support for the new TV app, which also does not indicate that a new generation is on the way. In light of the fact that Apple is trying to make its services available outside of the Apple TV device, its next generation does not make much sense.

In the autumn, we will also see the new game service Apple Arcade. Virtually all devices from Apple, including Apple TV HD and 4K, will support this - the question is how attractive gaming will be on this platform, and to what extent it will be more attractive than gaming on a Mac, iPad or iPhone.

What would be the reasons for releasing a new Apple TV?

Apple TV HD was introduced in 2015, followed two years later by Apple TV 4K. The fact that another two years have passed since its introduction could theoretically indicate that Apple will come up with a new generation this year.

There are those who are not only adamantly sure about the arrival of the new Apple TV, but are also quite clear about what parameters it will offer. For example, the Twitter account @never_released claims that the Apple TV 5 will be equipped with an A12 processor. There have also been speculations that it will be equipped with an HDMI 2.1 port - which would make sense especially in connection with the arrival of Apple Arcade. According to Tom's Guide, this port brings significant gameplay improvements, better controllability and more flexible content display. This is thanks to the new Auto Low-Latency Mode technology, which ensures faster transmission and adapts the TV settings to the displayed content. In addition, HDMI 2.1 offers VRR (variable refresh rate) and QFT (Quick Frame Transport) technology.

When it comes to the next-generation Apple TV, it looks like the pros are just as strong as the cons — and that the question shouldn't be "if," but "when."
