In 2006, Apple boasted a brand new laptop called the MacBook Pro, which came in two sizes – a 15″ and a 17″ screen. However, over a relatively long period of time, we have seen a number of various changes. The "pros" have gone through extensive development, multiple design changes, various issues, and the like before they got to the point where they are available today. There are now three versions available. A more or less basic 13″ model followed by a professional 14″ and 16″.

Years ago it was completely different. The very first 13″ model was introduced back in 2008. But let’s leave these other versions aside for now and focus on the 17″ MacBook Pro. As we mentioned above, when the MacBook Pro was introduced in general, the 17″ version came practically first (just a few months after the 15″ model). But Apple very quickly reassessed it and quietly stopped its production and sale. Why did he resort to this step?

Starring: Poor sales

Right from the start, it is necessary to draw attention to the fact that Apple most likely encountered weak sales of this device. Although for some users it was practically the best laptop available, which offered enough performance and plenty of space for multitasking, it cannot be denied its shortcomings. Of course, it was a rather massive and heavy laptop. At first glance, it was portable, but in practice it was not that simple.

In 2012, when the 17″ MacBook Pro saw its definitive end, a rather nice-sounding speculation began to spread across the Apple community. At that time, the offer consisted of a total of three models, similar to today. Specifically, it was a 13″, 15″ and 17″ MacBook Pro. The largest of them naturally had the highest performance. Therefore, some fans began to speculate that Apple cut it for another simple reason. Apple fans were supposed to favor it over the then Mac Pro, which is why both models faced relatively weak sales. But we never received an official confirmation from Apple.

After years of waiting, a compromise came

As we mentioned above, some users were not allowed to use the 17″ MacBook Pro. Logically, after its cancellation, they were starving and clamoring for its return. However, they saw a relatively successful compromise only in 2019, when Apple took the 15″ model, narrowed the bezels around the display and, after further redesign, brought the 16″ MacBook Pro to the market, which is still available today. In practice, this is a relatively successful combination of larger size, portability and performance.
