Apple has been associated with music for many years. In recent history, especially with regard to iPod players, the purchase of Beats, AirPods, HomePod smart speakers or your own music streaming with Apple Music. But why don't they make their own wireless speakers? There can be several reasons.

The HomePod mini is a smart speaker that would only need to cut the cord and integrate the battery, while Apple wouldn't have to invent much more, except for limiting functionality. We would immediately have a finished product in a proven design. But would this solution be feasible for Apple? It wasn't, for the very reason that if a HomePod so portable lost smart features that a portable Bluetooth speaker doesn't need, it would actually downgrade its solution.

Therefore, even though Apple is no stranger to Bluetooth technology, as it offers a full range of TWS headphones, AirPods and AirPods Max, it would rather target AirPlay in this regard. So even if it was a portable speaker, it wouldn't actually be Bluetooth. At the same time, the company has experience not only with HomePod, but also in the context of the acquisition of Beats, which took place in 2014. At the same time, Beats is exclusively engaged in the production of audio technology, primarily headphones and previously also speakers. Previously, because in the manufacturer's current offer you will find a wide range of headphones, but not a single speaker. Even this company is no longer targeting portable speakers. That it would be a dying segment?

The future is very uncertain

There are a huge number of portable Bluetooth speakers, where you can get them from the cheapest ones for a few hundred to those in the order of thousands of CZK. Therefore, it could be unnecessarily difficult to gain a foothold in this market, which is why both Apple and Beats ignore it, focusing mainly on headphones where they can show technological advances. This is in the case of active noise suppression or surround sound. But what would a Bluetooth speaker bring more than listening to music wirelessly? Here, we have probably already hit the ceiling, because even in this segment you will find combined solutions that are capable of both Bluetooth and AirPlay (e.g. Marshall products).

But Apple doesn't really care about sound. His desktops push the boundaries of quality music reproduction even further. Thanks to the M1 chip and the unique design of the 24" iMac, we can see that the integrated speakers can be really high-quality, and there is no need to listen to music through any other device when working with a computer. The same is true of Studio Display, or the new 14 and 16" MacBook Pros. We will probably never see Apple's wireless speaker. Let's hope Apple doesn't resent the HomePod and sooner rather than later we'll see some expansion of its portfolio.
