Although Apple did not present the new iPhone 4 yesterday as expected, the new iPhone OS 4 probably reveals a lot about this device.

Earlier, iPhone OS 3.2 for iPad revealed that Apple was working on video conference calls in iChat as well as support for the front-facing camera. While the iPad ultimately doesn't have these features, it seems more and more likely that they apply to the new generation iPhone.

Earlier, John Gruber wrote on his blog that the new iPhone will be based on the A4 chip known from the iPad, the screen will have a resolution of 960×640 pixels (double the current resolution), the second camera on the front should not be missing, and 3rd party applications should be multitasking enabled. We can tick off the last feature, because since yesterday we know that multitasking is part of iPhone OS 4. In the new iPhone OS 4, there is also evidence of an iChat client (for possible video calls).

Apple usually follows the release cycles of new Apple products, so we can expect that the new iPhone HD should be introduced in June this year. Engadget wrote that the new iPhone should be called the iPhone HD and could be released on June 22.
