Wireless connections on a Mac usually work perfectly fine under normal circumstances. But it may happen that there are complications that you will have to deal with in some way. It is on such occasions that some of the tips and tricks that we bring you in our article today may come in handy.

Quick launch of network diagnostics

Among other things, your Mac keyboard also has an Option (Alt) key, which in many cases takes you to hidden items in various menus. For example, if you click on the network connection icon in the upper right corner of your Mac's screen, and at the same time you hold down this key, you will see a more comprehensive menu in which you can click on the Start Wireless Network Diagnostics item to start the aforementioned diagnostics.

Mac as a hotspot

You can turn not only your iPhone into a hotspot, but also your Mac - that is, if it is connected to the Internet using a cable. How to do it? First, in the upper left corner of your Mac screen, click Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Sharing. In the left panel, click on the item Internet sharing, and then under the item Connection sharing via, select the appropriate connection type from the drop-down menu. In the table a little further down, all you have to do is select the Wi-Fi option. You can read about other options for sharing the Internet from a Mac on our sister site.

Priority network selection

If you have multiple Wi-Fi networks in your home or business, you will certainly welcome the option to set which of the offered networks your Mac will connect to as a priority. To change the priority network, click Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Network in the upper left corner of your Mac screen. Select Wi-Fi in the left panel, click Advanced... in the lower right corner, and then simply drag and drop to move the one you prefer to the first place in the list of networks.

Automatically launch the Bluetooth wizard

Most Bluetooth peripherals, such as keyboards or computer mice, can connect to the Mac without any problems. Nevertheless, it is worthwhile to implement measures in case there are problems with the connection. If you want the wizard to start automatically when a Bluetooth accessory is not found, click Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Bluetooth in the upper left corner of your Mac screen. In the lower right corner, click Advanced, then check both items related to automatically starting the Bluetooth Connection Wizard.

Forgot Wi-Fi password

It can sometimes happen to everyone that after a long time they want to connect to a Wi-Fi network that they have already connected to in the past, but it does not connect automatically and you no longer remember the password. If this password is stored in the Keychain, the Terminal will help you. Start the Terminal application (for example, via Spotlight by pressing Cmd + Spacebar and typing "Terminal" into the search box). Enter the following command in the Terminal command line: security find-generic-password -ga [name of desired Wi-Fi network] | grep "password:" and press Enter. You will be presented with a window in which you enter your Mac login information, and the corresponding password will be displayed in the Terminal window.
