OS X is great at working with keyboard shortcuts - you can add your own shortcuts to application actions to suit your needs. But then there are system shortcuts, with which it is practically impossible to find an already unoccupied shortcut. If three- or four-key shortcuts give you trouble, try sticky keys.

Click on to enable the function System Preferences, which are hidden under the apple icon in the upper left corner of the screen. On the menu Disclosure go to bookmark Keyboard, where you check the option Turn on sticky keys. From now on, pressed fn, ⇧, ⌃,⌥, ⌘ keys will appear in the corner of your screen and stay there.

For example, to create a new folder in the Finder, the shortcut ⇧⌘N is needed. With sticky keys on, you can repeatedly press the ⌘ key and release it, it will remain "stuck" on the display. You can do the same with ⇧, the display will show both ⇧⌘ symbols. Then just press N, the stuck keys will disappear from the display and a new folder will be created.

If you press one of the function keys twice, it will remain active until you press it a third time. As a simple example, I can think of a situation where you know in advance that he will fill in a table with numbers. You press ⇧ twice and without having to hold it, you can comfortably write numbers without quickly tiring your little finger.

As for the options for setting sticky keys, you can choose whether you want to turn them on and off by pressing ⇧ five times. You can also choose which of the four corners of the screen you want to display the key symbols and whether you want to play a sound when you press them (I recommend turning it off).

Although sticky keys may seem like an unnecessary feature to a healthy person with ten fingers, they can be an indispensable helper for the disabled. Sticky keys will certainly come in handy temporarily even for those who have injured their fingers, wrist or hand and have to make do with only one hand. Or you simply don't like typing "finger-breaking" keyboard shortcuts and would like to make it easier on your fingers.
