Press Release: If you feel that mobile operators sometimes do not treat you as they should a customer, that they hide important changes from you, unnecessarily prolong your departure to a competitor and automatically extend your contract without your consent, then you will surely be pleased that they will have such behavior it's over once and for all. With his signature, the President asserted more rights and protection for mobile customers.

After the much-discussed expensive mobile data and high roaming prices, other topics from the mobile market come up. Not only the Czech Telecommunications Authority, but also politicians did not like some of the actions of mobile operators, so an amendment to the Act on Electronic Communications was created, which is supposed to put a stop to unfair actions.

3 significant changes that the new legislation will bring to the mobile market

The amendment to the Electronic Communications Act will bring many changes, but above all it should strengthen the position of customers on the mobile market. And what are the three biggest news we will see?

  1. The transition to the competition will be easier and faster

While they still have now mobile operators to transfer a telephone number up to 42 days, as soon as the amendment to the law enters into force, must handle the entire transfer within 10 days. It was the long notice period that the operators sinned against, they knew that customers did not want to wait over a month for services from a new provider, and so they preferred to stay with their old operator.

  1. No one will automatically renew your contract

If you have occasionally received an unpleasant surprise in the form of an extended fixed-term contract without your consent, then you will not encounter this behavior again. Until now, it was enough for the operators to call you notified of the end of the contract in the monthly statement, unfortunately, many have overlooked the fine print. For those customers who did not comment on the termination or renewal of the contract, it was automatically deemed to agree.

Today, not only classic operators such as O2, T-Mobile a Vodafone, but also virtual providers must from their customers obtain demonstrable consent to extend the contract. If this does not happen, will happen to change the contract from a definite period to an indefinite period.

  1. You will be notified of any changes to the conditions in good time

The last, third, significant change for the better is that operators must now always inform clients about changes regarding business conditions. At the same time with each change, customers can terminate the contract. Unfortunately, this has not been the case so far.

Customers could withdraw from the contract only if there was a substantial change in terms. Unfortunately the meaning of "substantiality" was different for mobile operators and different for consumers. It all resulted in a lawsuit, when the company O2 did not inform its clients that their mobile internet would be completely turned off after the prepaid data volume was used up. This case was the last straw for the mobile market, so the Czech Telecommunications Authority fined the operator CZK 6. At the same time, the law was also amended.
